Thank you for your fast and clear answer . Just installed HCFR and will start using it this Thursday (together with my friend) just to find out the current status/performance of the projector (and if necessary to adjust). To be honest it already looks great, but with about 50 hours, I guess it could be(come) even better.

I can basically guarantee that your gamma is too low and your red is undersaturated out of the box.

All JVC NX are, at least of the 4 NX5, 2 NX7, and 2 NX9 that I have measured and calibrated.

But you are right, they do look good.  But they can still look noticeably better!

Just in case @Manni01 still reads this, I post this here too :

To @Manni01 : it has been found that the connection problems with the SpyderX are due to the lack (or not found) latest Microsoft Visual Studio 2015-2019 C++ runtime program : VCRuntime140.dll
If not already installed (Windows\System32) it can be dowloaded from Microsoft here ===> vc_redist.x86.exe (as Autocal is a x86 program).

It may be worth adding this info on the first page ?

I just bought the spyderX for gama and it did a very good job for SDR.

When I log hdr 10 it looks different in gama
Will this be ok to save?

It’s most likely OK, but it’s hard to tell when looking at an S-shape curve.  That’s why it’s better to use gamma 2.2 even when calibrating HDR. 
The X-rite colorimeters (i1Display Pro and its derivatives) require a set of modified DLL files to be used for Autocal.  Search for “alternate meters for Autocal”.

Hi all,

I recently bought a JVC N7 and I'm pretty new to this game of 'autocal'
I bought myself a spyderX and did a gamma calibration which went fine and result was subtle but present, the image already improved. As I read here, the spyderX is not suitable for color calibration so I bought myself a brand new (well, it's a couple years old but never used) EFI ES-2000 which should be the same meter as the i1pro2. Now here's my issue where I need some guidance; when I try to select the EFI sensor in the calibration tab of the JVC 'autocal' program it keeps telling me that it cannot detect the sensor. I tried to install the driver mentioned in this or another thread (i1_x64.sys) but it wouldn't help (windows 10). Is there something I missed or missing to get this sensor working with the autocal program? Please help ...

You must put the ES-2000 on its calibration cradle ( the one with the white tile ) before selecting it, then select it and wait for the sensor's light to blink briefly and then only move it to its measuring position.

I currently have an i1 that I use for calibrating my RS2000.  I am buying an i1 3 Pro for photography purposes, and would love to to have to keep both.  Does anyone know of plans for the JVC calibration SW to support the i1 3?

a french professional calibrated the envy and sony 790 sony laser of a friend of mine in rec709 for hdr because the targets can be reached at 100 percent so no mapping error
the reason is that the dci is not attainable at 100% but at 87% so risk of error and the colors will not be respected is this a good step?

In my experience it's still worth targeting a wider gamut if the display can go wider than rec709.

If you are mapping the BT.2020 color in the HDR to rec709 then the out of gamut colors are by definition already are not correct.

If you target P3 or BT.2020 then more of the original HDR colors will be able to be presented correctly.  As far as what happens to the out of gamut colors, that depends on how the display or calibration / LUT being used handles them.

yes I think exactly the same thing as you but 2 French professionals support this theory so I would like to understand because for me we make more mistakes by staying in rec709 than in dci even if it is truncated

Is it possible to calibrate a NX5 with an efi-es2000 and an i1d3 pro in hdr mode ? Are those meters able to do it the right way ?
Is jvc autocal software ready to do that ?

Pardon a question that has likely been answered earlier in this thread (I searched, but didn't find it).  With the v12 calibration software can I use the Spyder5 Pro or do I need to by the SpyderX or similar?

Autocal V12 is for Spyder X  and  V11 is for Spyder 5
