OK, will try this next time, still I do not really understand why the graphic card has to be 0-255 ? Why not 16-235 like the rest of the chain, isn't that forcing a double conversion, once 16-235 to 0-255 from HCFR to the graphic card and then again 0-255 to 16-235 from the graphic card to the projector ?I understand that when using a player or mediacenter it resumes to 16-235 on both ends.
What if one has the GPU set to 16/235, madvr set to 0-255 and the proj set to 16/235, is this wrong?
GPU set to 16-235 is always wrong. If the GPU is set to 16-235 it will always be doing an average quality conversion no matter what anything else is set to.
The problem I find if I set the GPU, madvr and the JVC NX9 all to 0/255, when the proj switches to HDR the image is washed out. Ive checked my 16/235 and the HDR test patterns and both SDR and HDR are not correct.When I set the GPU to 16/235 and madvr to 0-255 and the JVC NX9 to 16/235 both test patterns for SDR and HDR are correct.I just cant find a way to set the GPU to 0-255 and have SDR and HDR patters correct
Not sure why you are getting that problem.Full - Limited - Limited (what you are using) is at least the correct video levels.It's just double scaling the video and 1 of the scales is being done by the GPU driver at noit a high level of quality.https://kodi.wiki/view/Video_levels_and_color_space
Oh Ive now been able to get it to work with the GPU, madvr and the proj all set to FULL, and 8bit on the card. If I change the card to 12bit as I had it before I run into the washed out look on the proj for HDR. I then have to manually change the proj back to 16/235 to get the test patterns correct.So it looks like for my 1080Ti card I cant ever set it to 12bit.What are your thoughts on this please?
I wouldn't bother with 12-bit on the NX9. The JVC NX don't support 12-bit at 4:4:4 chroma. They downsample 12-bit 4:4:4 to 4:2:2.With 8-bit you get full 4:4:4 chroma working properly.I have never seen banding at 8-bit when using madVR dithering so I don't see any reason to use 12-bit.
Which madvr dithering is the best to reduce any banding, Ive been using ordered? I have the power to go higher...
Either Error Diffusion mode. I think most people use mode 2.
Ok thank you. I dont really ever notice any banding on the main feature but I often do on many of the start logos fade outs. Im sure many of these logos are of poor quality, have you noticed this?
Hi everyone,I am new on this forum. I recently purchased a NX9 and want to get everything out of it .A friend of my informed me about this topic which is great! Learned already a lot (but still digesting). To save costs so far (also to find out if I like to do the calibration myself) I purchased only a SpyderX. So far, only calibrated the gamma of my projector. But I am considering to also buy a x-Rite i1 Pro 2 (to allow me to do a good color calibration).I notice(d) however that the i1 Pro 2 is out of production. Does anyone know if the i1 Pro 3 is also supported by the latest version of the calibration software or will this newer version be supported in the next software update?Maybe a more general question, what is your experience wrt sensors vs calibration software? Do the newer software updates also require hardware updates? (I.e. how future proof am I when now spending money on a good sensor?)Thanks in advance for your response.Best regards, Jean
Autocal does not support the Pro 3.It probably will in the future at some time, but maybe / probably never for the NX9.Which meter you buy depends on if you want to get into calibration more and if you want to spend a lot on calibration software or just use the awesome free calibration tools.All the free tools support the Pro 2 great, but none support the Pro 3 yet and who knows when they ever will.If you get the Pro 3 you will probably have to stick with stuff like CalMAN and Lightspace. If you go with the Pro 2 you can use free stuff like DisplayCAL and HCFR and of course the pay softwares too.I would just get a cheap Pro 2 off eBay.
