The thing I like about the Oppo is the 21:9 setting where it scales to 16:9 with a button press. With a 2.35 screen I don't have to constantly zoom in and out using the lens memory settings.
I think it's fair to say that pretty much everything about JVCs new projectors took SONY by surprise... I would expect MadVR to be superior, so I will be very interested to hear your feedback regarding which is better and hence whether or not this is the case.
I use my HD250 with the lens zoomed on a 2:35:1 screen. It's a bit of a pain having to manually adjust the lens when going back and forth between 1.78:1 and 2.35:1 content, but it's livable. Not being able to see the info display of the Blu-ray player is an annoyance, and the rumored 2.35:1/21:9 feature on the Oppo (as well as its reputation) always had me wishing after one. Now they're gone, but it sounds like the Panasonic 820 is the heir-apparent in all but a 2.35:1/21:9 mode.Aside from just selecting the 1.78:1 lens memory setting and putting mileage on the lens motors, is there a feature on the new JVC models that would make this annoyance go away? I suspect I need to find a champion in the Panasonic firmware engineering department instead...
Arrow- Did the JVC engineers mention anything about the auto tone mapping being available to RS4500 owners via firmware updater?
Mike, if I remember correctly, you're using an anamorphic lens out of necessity due to room size/throw constraints?
And use what? Panny 820?
That would be my recommendation. Although you won't need the Panny's HDR Optimizer because the new JVC's already have the same thing built-in!
