Darbee told me at CES 2016 that there was a 4K version, but it was only going to be used in other products - not sold as a stand alone device. That's what Darbee told me ( 'cause I specifically asked ) !

Yes, know that it is supposed to be coming, but I thought you were saying available. As of right now, I have only read about 4K Darbee as a future product, with no set release date.

I was just wondering out loud if an Oppo UDP - 203 D might arrive some day ! You never know !

Yaaaaay!  ;D 8)

Several points on this new Public Beta firmware:

The item regarding color shift for the 21:9 Aspect Ratio modes fixes the image corruption when using the Zoom choices. All combos of Aspect Ratio and Zoom should produce clean output now.

The A/V Sync control in the player should be working much more reliably in this firmware -- perhaps even completely fixed depending upon your configuration. Any remaining issues you discover with use of the A/V Sync setting should be reported.

Crossover processing is now working properly for LPCM 2.0 input into the Optical/Coax S/PDIF Digital audio Inputs of the 205.

There are undoubtedly some other bug fixes I've failed to list. Collect Them All!

--------------------------------------------------------

Regarding the new HDR to SDR options:

Most folks who have been using HDR Strip Metadata to get SDR with BT.2020 color gamut should now use the new HDR Off (BT.2020) choice.

The HDR Strip Metadata choice remains available, but is intended for use with displays that have custom HDR handling implemented.

Anyone using the HDR to SDR conversion should revisit your choice of Target Luminance setting. Odds are you will find a higher number works better than the value you've been using up to now.

so after more A/B'ing...Im sticking with custom curves for now.

1) not a fan of having to adjust luminance target for each movie...i prefere the set it forget it of the custom curve
2) not all is right with the oppo....purple tint to blue (also reported over at AVS)

if it aint broke...at this point i guess :)

Thanks - you saved me some money that I can spend on some other piece of home theater gear I don't really need, but want anyway.

welp i know IM being flip floppy....but

I was able to play with this more last night and used Kingsman Golden Circle.  I THINK the OPPO is the winner....I wasnt using "mode 2" when i first used it....now its better....also I use 800 target luminance before i was using 400...

the colors are much better...and the black detail is way better....Merlins sweater was just dark with the HDR curve//// you can see all the subtle knitting in it with the oppo

im gonn leave it using the oppo for a bit....but I think it may be the winner....too early to tell to be honest...and its hard to remember too since the switching takes forever with the JVC

I think once Oppo gets this refined, it's going to be really impressive and being able to close down the iris for more contrast will be nice for a lot of people.

I am 100% converted from custom curve to using the oppo

My setting is

Hdr2020 off
Mode 2
Target lum 400

It’s as close to set and forget as you can get.

Power rangers (which has its dark dim moments) looked outstanding! And blade runner 2049 is just jaw dropping. The see blacks but all the shadow detail you can dream of

I have a love hate with these new improvements. Love how great they make the rs600 look. Hate that I want to rewatch all my 4K discs

And here I almost dumped my 203 earlier This year. So glad I didn’t

Oppo ftw

Oppo ftw

Yes, this firmware update made the closeout pricing on the 600's a steal of a deal.
