Oppo UDP-203 Ultra HD Blu-ray Player
« on: October 24, 2016, 02:41:52 PM »
Like many other people, I too am looking forward to the release of the new 4K player from Oppo. Here is what we know, so far:

1.  It will be a universal player supporting DVD-Audio and SACD.
2.  It will have two HDMI ports. One for video/audio with HDMI 2.0a and HDCP 2.2 and the second HDMI port for audio only for    connection to legacy equipment.
3.  It will have an HDMI input port for connecting sources to the player.
4.  Built in Wifi support and ethernet connection.
5.  Three USB media file ports.
6.  HDR support and HDR to SDR conversion.
7.  7.1 channel analog out.
8.  Optical digital audio.
9.  RS232 for control.
10.  12 volt trigger.
11.  No streaming apps. At least not on introduction. Oppo could add some later, but no confirmation of that.
12.  Expected price of $499 with availability in December 2016.

Contact your dealer for preordering.

Im just back from a US trip, if it had been out i would have gotten 1 with me back home to Denmark.
I do have the Panasonic UB900, and hope the new OPPO will do better handeling the new format, and hopfully support a coming HDR format that works for projectors without to many compromises.

I think HDR will always be compromised with projectors vs HDTV's, due to the way they work. On the other hand, a big glass screen is not a theater and has a totally different look. I prefer front projection. So, you must pick your poison so to speak. The HD Fury Integral has been great to just remove HDR from the equation entirely !

The main problem is that the source material is mastered in HDR, so SDR also dont work right, unless you got a very very bright projector, and to me the elevated black/ low contrast converted HDR to SDR dont really work, ill much prefer a HD Blu Ray mastered in SDR.. So as it looks to me the HDR format is made for Tvs in bright livingroom conditions.. Wich is sad as the UHD resolution really belong on the big scren.. So hopfully we will get a HDR format mastered for 100 nit or something like that, instead of the fantastic high output nr, sure 10000 nit is better than 100 on paper right.?

I really really hope we will get a optimum UHD format, that aim for projector presentation, untill then i think we are better off with HD blu ray for projector use.

Went back to my old stuff (would have had 'THX-MAN' all along like me other sites but some F'r stole it from me back in 2002 on AVS  ;D ).

I could see how Craig may have misunderstood with my moniker at the bottom saying... Kevin (Krichter1 on AVS Forum).  Reading is a skill not yet mastered by some.   :P   ;D
