Will be interesting to see if the 203 will output a non compromised image on the only video HDMI output it have.. If so that must mean they left the enhancement features behind, or finaly found a processor that can do it all without negative effects like the usual croma loss. As i already have the Panasonic UB900 that i dont use, i think ill try to controle my buy it now trigger to the 2nd generation OPPO UHD player, who hopfully will be set on streaming services, and a HDR standard that might make sense.

I think HDR will always be compromised with projectors vs HDTV's, due to the way they work. On the other hand, a big glass screen is not a theater and has a totally different look. I prefer front projection. So, you must pick your poison so to speak. The HD Fury Integral has been great to just remove HDR from the equation entirely !

From: http://www.trustedreviews.com/oppo-udp-203-review:
Naturally, there’s also HDR to SDR conversion for older TVs that don’t support HDR10 – it can be selected in the setup menu as one of four HDR modes, alongside an option to output HDR with the metadata stripped.

While I don't always trust " Trusted Reviews ", I'm going to trust this one, and now my excitement level is up to 110% to get this player.  :)

I'm right there with ya (just wish since they were doing a "hands-on" review they would have spent a little time on the HDR/SDR settings!)!   :-X

On Oppo's Facebook page in the September 21 posting regarding the 203...

Responding to a question asking about a 105 replacement...

We're working on it. It will probably take another 2-4 months after the UDP-203 is ready.

Responding to question about Dolby Vision...

At launch, the UDP-203 will be capable of supporting HDR10. Additional support for other HDR formats such as Dolby Vision may be available at a later date via firmware upgrade, but it’s not something we can promise at this time.

Day one purchase for me... :)

I am trying to decide if I should upgrade my 1080p projector or let the Oppo down scale...I am really interested in the Atmos audio on certain UHD discs...

A question for Mike.  How soon after Oppo begins shipping to their own retail customers, who have ordered thru the Oppo web site, do you expect AV Science to receive their first batch of 203's?

A second question for any existing Oppo owner that pre-ordered an earlier model player thru the Oppo web site.  How long was it from the time you received the Oppo email for pre-orders until Oppo actually began shipping the new players?

Oppo told us the first shipment that Oppo gets will be a small limited quantity. Dealers will receive theirs from the second batch.

Not sure that you will get Atmos, if down converting to 1080P. I just do not know. What do current owners get, audio wise when down converting to 1080P?
