I’m constantly getting zero value for Red and Green gamma autocal at step1. I’ve moved SpyderX between 15-40cm off screen with no luck, and zoom at minimum too. PJ is about 5.8m away and projecting 135” with 1.35 gain. The gamma autocal result seems okay but I read that zero value readings  should be avoided- any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

How? I worked it around by using i1d3 facing the projector (with the patched tool) but it would be interesting to understand how to solve it with a Spyder X facing the screen.

Recently purchased a new SpyderX Pro and used EFI ES-2000 (X-Rite i1Pro 2).  I am attempting to run AutoCal now after reading the many instructions/comments in this thread, along with various other resources.  I'm starting with a gamma calibration using the SpyderX for SDR/Low Lamp/No Filter/Iris=0 profile.  I have mounted the SpyderX on tripod, approximately 11 inches from the screen, pointing slightly up to avoid it's shadow.  The screen/meter are always within the orange box when I choose the SpyderX in the AutoCal software.  I can run the AutoCal calibration and it "successfully" completes.  But every calibration attempt results in a Zero (0) reading for Gamma Step 1 for all colors (Red, Green, Blue).  What are the tricks to try to get this to read a non-zero value in Step 1?

I've tried the following:

• Configured Gamma settings to run 'Speed', 'Normal', and 'Quality' calibrations (9 Steps, 20ish Steps, 33 Steps)
• Different positions/tilts of the meter, including moving it back to about 16"
• Changing to High Lamp to increase brightness.
• Zoomed the projector as far as possible while still having the meter positioned to read close to the center of the projected image.
• Removed the USB extension cable connecting the SpyderX meter to my laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad, Windows 10)

But nothing I've done results in a non-zero value for any Gamma Step 1 for any color.

Any tips/tricks anyone can offer?

Is it possible I received a "bad" SpyderX Pro meter and I should try to return for a different one?  I did buy it new a few months ago when it was on sale, but I didn't open it until yesterday when I got around to running the calibrations.  Hopefully I can still return/replace it if the consensus is that it's a 'bad" sample.

Yes sometimes the apyders are out of spec. Maybe try another.

What is current Best Practices for Calibration after replacing the bulb?  In the past, it was 'wait until 100hrs' before calibrating. Is that still the Best Practice?

I'd wait for the bulb to settle a bit because it will lose brightness. Maybe 25 or 30 hours or so.

Hi Guys,

I am attempting to auto calibrate my JVC N7 projector for the first time.
The settings on the calibration software require that I enter the screen size. Should I enter the size for a 1.78 screen or my actual 2.35 screen?

After replacing the original bulb in my RS2000/NX7, I used Auto-Cal with the bulb at 87hrs.  After all the readings are taken, the Autocal program asks if the user wants to SAVE the data. After selecting SAVE, a process starts; but at about 25% the Auto-Cal program crashes.  I had not experienced this when using AutoCal on my old bulb.  I did make one change before running the calibration: I changed 'Calibration Result' to 'Individual'.  Have any of you experienced AutoCal suddenly terminating during the SAVE process?  (During the measurement and calculation phase of AutoCal, one of the scrolling text entries says 'Saving data to projector' or something like that).  I'm hoping the abrupt termination of the program doesn't mean the projector has not been modified.  Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, I am unable to provide you with an answer to your problem, but I noticed that, like me, you have a 2.35 screen.  Do you enter in the Autocal Settings/Screen Size for aspect 2.35 ratio , or do you enter the equivalent size (same width) for a 16:9 screen?

Excellent Question!  I do not have an a-lens, so it's the Zoom method (CIH) for me.  For Auto-Cal I use my actual screen width, but calculate based upon a 16:9 screen, as recommended in various tutorials.  Regarding my original question, I'll be testing today and will post the results.

Thanks for your reply, JohnG.  I guess as much that a 16:9 screen equivalent dimension has to be used.  It makes sense.

I hope you get your crashing Autocal issue sorted out.
