I’ll have today’s updates up soonYou can get a lot of noise from a drop ceiling if you have a lot of subs. If a lot of subs, glue and screw the drywall. Heck, I screwed all the framing together.
But any I put on drop ceilings? Are they bad for sound. I know they make absorbing panels but for me

Usually you hang the ceiling first.No the cans are new construction cans you nail to the joists. The bulbs are just hanging there for light. You take those out. Then put up the drywall and cutout the lights circles :)

No joke. I was a commercial general contractor for over 20 years. You hang the ceiling first. That is standard practice. You cut the holes for the lights and after hanging a few sheets, can wire temporary lights hanging from the openings in the drywall or you can have work lights below. Doing the ceiling first means the walls can help support the edges of the drywall.Ooooh. You were talking about the wall of drywall i. put up.

inside the theater the ceiling will 100% be hung first with drywall. The cans are installed ready for drywall to be placed over them

I’mOne thing about surface mounting - it's possible to move the side surround speakers if you should decide to move your seating closer to the screen. I've done that twice, in the march from 1080p DLP to eshift 4K to native 4K. If you are 100% certain your seats are where they will stay, then it won't matter.
In the debate mode weather I should recess the surrounds and ceiling volt 6’s into the walls/ceiling as much as I can and make fabric panels to hide them. Also debating columns on the sides and rears.
Or just surface mount everything.

I am using Volt-8's for atmos and Volt-10's for side and rear surrounds. I surface mounted. I particularly wanted to be able to aim the atmos speakers. So I built U brackets for them. Can rotate and tilt the speakers.The good thing about the volts is the great wide dispersion they have. While i did have them angled in the old theater. I don’t think it was actually necessary. I’m looking forward to the wider space between the speakers. Old theater they were close together. Less than ideal

Most people do not know how exhausting it is to hold your hands above your head long enough to mud and tape a ceiling. It is a lot tougher than most realize.Yup it’s brutal. That and wiring lights etc in the ceiling. Oof
Wall fabric panels are coming up soon.You have a picture of what you are wanting this to look like? I would probably install blocking for the crown to bring it out flush with the wall panel. Then install the crown first. Same for the ceiling, if installing panels there. Installing crown on top of the panels would be a lot harder and more waste of material, because you would have to break the crown only where you have something solid to attach to. In other words, only at a panel edge.

valid...but couldnt I just attach the crown to any part of the fabric frame? im just concerned there will be a gap between the panel and the crown blockLet's say the crown will stick down from the ceiling 4" and the fabric panel is 1" thick. Cut a strip of wood blocking that is 7/8" thick and fasten it to the wall so that the bottom is 3-3/4" down from the ceiling. Now when you put the panel up, no way the blocking could show and yet you have a nice solid surface to fasten the crown. Also you will be able to break the crown anywhere, rather than just where you have solid blocking in a panel. Believe me this will be faster and look much better. Solving construction build problems like this is what I did for over 25 years. :)

There is another vent on the bottom, at the front of the projector that is also an intake. As long as you have cool air available from the room the back of the projector is in, projector will be fine.

You know that moving in the equipment and seats before the theater is completed is a progress killer. Hard to finish, when you can go in there and just watch movies. It usually adds months to the build time. :)That’s the gamble I’m willing to take hahahah

I would build a whole bunch of panels and then start installing them at the front. That way you can get the screen in place and actually use the theater, if wanted. You can't go places right now, so getting it usable is what I would do. Because fastening panels is not a messy job and you can add them as you get several more built.you sir....are wise beyond your years!

So nothing new to report. Been working on the rest of the basement finish, made a run to the dump (so happy i did that was getting stressed by the mess0.So sorry to hear about your dog. I'll be in a similar situation soon. Our 12 year old dog has Cushings Disease and generally the life expectancy once they come down with it is about 24 months or so and it's bee about 9 months now. So far the homeopathic treatment we have him on is going well but he doesn't have the energy he once had. I dread that last trip the vet and I can sympathize with the pain you're going through. Whatever you do, avoid watching "The Art of Racing in the Rain" unless you want to ball your eyes out.
I only have the backwall to finish in the theater. Been watching a lot of movies though which is good. I will def finish it so don't worry, I'm not that guy for sure, but have to get the basement in order for the inspection of the new insurance company! Yep ours dropped us from this small claim, absolutely ridiculous, they want to collect the years of premium payments but don't want to pay out A $7,000 CLAIM smh
Also some sad news, yesterday was one of the hardest things i have ever had to do, I had to put our dog Emma (13 year old puggle) down :'( she couldn't walk well, lift her head or eat very well. Her quality of life really dropped in the past week nor two. So sad, I am still reeling from the whole experience, gut wrenching!

Been there. Wife & I have been adopting rescue dogs the last several years. Have 2 now. Our 1st developed pancreatic cancer after 6 months (she was only around 5-6 years old) and even though that's all the time we had with her we developed a lot of bonding and love - my wife bawled for a week.Sorry to hear that. Our dog is a rescue as well and he's so loving. We will miss him a lot.

The standard drives used in NAS are the Western Digital Red series or Seagate Iron Wolf. Both are tweaked expressly for NAS use. Just figure out how much storage you need and get the right size - depending on how your NAS is setup you will be able to use around 1/2 to 2/3 of that space so calculate accordingly. The Red Pro has a higher RPM (7200 vs 5400) and other high capacity performance type stuff (like supposedly being designed for a NAS with up to 24 bays) which almost certainly won't matter. It also has a 5 year vs 3 year warranty.
If you mean Red vs other options like WD Blue or Green, I wouldn't. Stick with the NAS designed drives for a NAS - it's a different environment with potentially more heat in a small space compared to say a desktop drive. The only other WD I would possibly consider is a Purple, which is designed for surveillance/DVR use case where it's constantly going - but it's more expensive than the Red as a result.
Up to about 425 4K UHD bluray rips on my NAS :) still have 12TB free. loving this thing! so fun to be able to start and stop at will and change the movie if your not feeling itMy disc player does that now ! ;D

I have a hard enough time finding time to use my theater, I do not want to add more work to my current load. If you have the time to build a NAS, keep it updated and rip movies, it is a great solution. My brother (also engineer and computer Science major) loves his.That’s all I was saying. Everyone was just downplaying it. Like it wasn’t a good solution. Despite me really loving it. So it seemed close minded. If it’s not for you that’s fine :) I didn’t think it was for me till I had it in house. It’s worth every second on it for me. I enjoy tinkering w the theater and it was just plug and play for awhile. And I’m quite content with the rs600 lumagen combo. Word is native 4K next to e-shift is barely noticeable if at all. I’ll take top of the line blacks and the lense of the rs600 (for now hahah)

The movies aren't only easily accessible in the home theater, but they are accessible in many other places (bedroom, iPads, and even outside the home.). Remember though that even if the NAS uses RAID, it's important to have a second NAS to backup the first as insurance in case the first NAS has issues (maybe a disaster like a flood). Too much of a pain to have to re-rip hundreds of movies from the original media.

If you haven't caught it recently, you will catch Omicron...for most people (vaxed and unvaxed), it's mostly a cold for the majority of people.
Now my son and I have it. Ran 5.5 miles yesterday. Today I feel TERRIBLE. Fully vaxed and boostered. Can’t imagine what it would be like if i wasn’t. .

Sorry to hear about the fire. I shut my computer and server off when I leave town for more than 48 hours. In fact, when I leave for more than a week, I even unplug things from the wall (projector and Trinnov for sure). California power is too sporadic with black and brown outs (brown outs are the worst on electronics).Thanks. Yeah 99% it was from a major power surge from a terrible electrical storm we had.
