As for Dolby Vision Oppo page now says: "Support for Dolby Vision will be available in the future via a firmware upgrade". The Oppo page does indicate the player can do HDR to SDR conversion and also ".... features support for all current SD, HD, and UHD resolutions, including 4K@60p, 4K@50p, 4K@30p, and 4K@24p using various color spaces such as PC RGB, Video RGB, YCbCr 4:4:4, 4:2:2, and 4:2:0."

There is nothing in the user manual regarding any option to select conversion of HDR to BT.2020 SDR or REC709 SDR.

And there appears to be no equivalent of the Panasonic player's HDR to SDR conversion dynamic range adjustment.   Maybe saving that for the 205?

It's on page 49.  Hopefully it can also be switched using the HDR button on the remote.

I'm a beta tester for Oppo and the NDA is lifted today, so I can tell you the conversion is definitely there in the current beta firmware.  I haven't been able to test it much with my RS500, but I thought I saw Kris Deering say he's worked with them on it.  I'm sure it will be working excellent.

Yes. For customers using projectors or older 4K displays that do not support HDR, yet still want to take advantage of the BT.2020 color space, the UDP-203 is capable of stripping the HDR metadata from the signal while still maintaining the BT.2020 color space output.

Does the UDP-203 have any built-in streaming services such as Netflix or VUDU?   The UDP-203 is designed with a purist approach for disc and file playback, and it does not have any built-in video or music streaming apps. 


Based on that wording I wouldn't be counting on them being added later.  Not an issue for me; I am keeping my Samsung player for Netflix and Amazon.

While the current user manual does not show the option, there will be an additional option in the HDR menu to strip metadata and output BT.2020:

HDR [ Auto | On | Off | Strip Metadata ]

Whether that option is still Beta or in the production firmware release will wait to be seen.
