Oppo UDP-203 Ultra HD Blu-ray Player

Oppo takes care of their direct purchasers first with any new launch if my memory is correct.  I don't even remember any re-sellers when I bought my 83.  Maybe Audio Advisor if anyone, but maybe direct only also.  My memory is a bit hazy on that.

In the other forum a poster reported that Oppo replied to him by email that the 203 would be available mid-month at a suggested list price of $499 - $599.

Perhaps a limited time introduction price at $499?

Heard some news and not real happy about it. :( Oppo is not going to allow dealers access to the 203 until a week or two after launch, so that they can get all of the initial orders.

super sad face

Takes care of? It is a matter of maximizing profit. Sony has done the same thing. Remember when the HMZ-T1 came out. A lot of dealers had preorders and Sony released the product direct to catch all of the initial sales, then later released to dealers. There were no Oppo dealers, when the 83 came out. http://www.soundandvision.com/discplayers/oppo_bdp-83_universal_blu-ray_player/#b6ITu6Cr84uSSegh.97

"Oppo Digital may not be the most recognized name on the block, but if you’ve used its products in the past, you’ll certainly remember it. Oppo has been in the DVD player market for a few years now and does all of its business online."

If that was meant for me than yes, I am a buyer.  I sent in my email notification request when it was first posted.  No need to wait for reviews.  I'm a long time satisfied Oppo owner.

I have one on order too. Good thing, as my Samsung 4K player has been acting up lately. It's a piece of ____ ( fill in your own 4 letter word ).

I have heard the same about the Samsung...wouldn't touch it with a 10' pole. Samsung definitely dropped the ball on the 4K player.

Actually, except for the cheap build/feel, the Samsung has been getting really good reviews in general.  And the price has plummeted for BF and Xmas.  Wanna bet on <$100 before Super Bowl?  And frankly, a lot of this has probably been precipitated by the OPPO anticipation.  I seriously doubt that Samsung and Philips (the other "lower" end 4K BR player) have missed all this flap.  I expect that by Vegas time frame, one or both will annouce a new OPPO competitor.  All Samsung really needs to do is put a decent frame on theirs and give it a new model number.

What a shame that in this day, and age Manufacturers rush to get a product out without fully testing them. :(

My guess is we will learn the official US release date for the 203 sometime this week and the first units to begin shipping next week.
