JVC RS500 / 600 Owners

I posted this at the other site, but should mention it here.

My initial RS500 developed a stuck pixel (green of all colors) after 7 hours and had a lens shift that was sticky - this was important as I use constant image height and the zoom method. Well, it was learned that JVC made a production run change later in the year to improve the lens shift and Mike was able to track me down such a unit. The exchange couldn't be any more smoother. The replacement unit shifts very nicely and is a very nice sample in general. Very hard to get this kind of support elsewhere and this is not the first time he has helped me out.

Are you doing any 4K with or without HDR?

I use lens memory on a regular basis, so I would agree - very important !

Other than beta testing 4K with the Oppo 203, I am using standard Blu-ray on it for regular viewing.

The RS500 even for 1080p seems slightly more crisp compared to my previous RS4810.  Did JVC make lens improvements since then?

I'm getting almost three times the native contrast as before and it shows. :)  The blacks are so deep.

My RS4810 had some color desaturation errors in some areas...and sometimes this could be seen in content (having come from a Panasonic VT60 plasma prior that had great color accuracy).  The RS500 improvement here seems to be evident, as well.  The overall color gamut de is only .4 and every error is very, very low.

whats the thoughts on firing up the PJ....does turning it on more often....shorten the bulb life?

what I mean...if I want to adjust settings on my display only am I better off waiting for a time where i will use the PJ for a few hours? rather than turn it on...just for adjustments (maybe 15 minutes) then turn it off until later that night?

It's often been speculated that individual lamp strikes do more harm than individual hours on the bulb.

My understanding is that lamp strikes turning on the projector put the most wear on the lamp. But, I don't sweat it as much as I used to. Fast mountain driving wears out the tires on my 350Z faster too!

I used to worry about it, but then I think of how few replacement lamps I have actually purchased and realize it is really a non factor for me.

Welcome Javs. Put some pics up of your theater in the finished section. So you can show off those TPL-150H's. :)

Cool so now you don't have to think Mike & Craig are holding out on you (from the "other" site)!   :P   ;D
