Can someone remind the difference between brightness of the 500 and a panny 8000?

Thanks

If talking calibrated lumens, it is about like comparing a candle to a spot light. The JVC is more than twice as bright in low lamp as the Panny is in high lamp.

About equal. At least my RS600 was compared to my VW600.

Banding?

what would be the cause of some minor banding?

currently I am using the oppo 203 using strip meta with 150 nits on the slider (new beta) and I am getting slight banding on some discs....I have tried 4.2.2, 4.4.4, auto...... force 10-bit force 12-bit, auto...

on arrival its the worst...watched miss peregrin last night and there was minor banding...trying to get rid of it...its really the ONLY issue I have otherwise the SDR picture is outstanding.

TIA

Hi folks, I'm a new RS500 owner courtesy of the closeout sale at AVS - thanks Craig! I'm coming from a Sony HW55ES and have about 9 pairs of 3D glasses (several Samsungs, one Xpand X105-RF and a couple of 3Actives which are my favorite). However, I have a Black Diamond screen which retains polarization, and the JVCs are the only projectors which use a horizontal orientation as opposed to vertical, and causes a significant loss of light with the RS500. I've done a quick setup & 3D test with the RS500 and confirmed that the 3D glasses I have are very dark with the JVC / BD combo, way too dark to be useful. (With my head tilted the picture is great, but...)

I see the JVC PK-AG3 is available but VERY expensive - even the best price from a legit dealer (at AV Science!) is about 3-4x what I've paid for my preferred 3D glasses and 8x what I paid for the Samsungs. However it looks like Xpand made those glasses for JVC as a special version of the X105-RF. So far I've only found a UK site that sells them, though. They're a bit more affordable from there than the JVC version but still on the expensive side.

Anyone have any suggestions on reasonably priced 3D glasses that do the horizontal polarization?

The Oppo strip meta data is still a work in progress and there has been some reports of banding with it.

Hey Craig,

I just have a lowly RS400 (:P), and created a Custom Curve using Arve's Software, and following the steps outlined in lovingdvd's "Speed Guide."  I watched Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children the other night, and it looked fantastic.  I'm very pleased with what I'm seeing now (having been pretty disappointed using Gamma D, even with JVC's tweaks).

I can't objectively compare with what I saw when I (briefly) had the HDFury Integral for SDR/BT2020, as I didn't take the time to do comparative photographs, but it looks pretty darn good to me!  Also watched Amazing Spiderman 2, and Angry Birds, and was equally impressed.

That is excellent news ! The development of the custom gamma curves using Arve's software has really made 4k / HDR work in an excellent way on these projectors !

Hi, I have a new RS-620 which I find to be the best projector I've owned, with one exception. The iris seems to be "over active" even with manual adjustment setting the limits to "4 or5" and I've tried "auto 1 and Auto 2". In result I watch everything in "Manual" iris, which is fine but I wonder if I'm not missing out with some of the deeper darks it could provide. Wonder if anyone else is experiencing this "pumping" or if my unit is somehow defective?

What size / type screen do you have? High or low lamp ? I rarely saw the iris working on my RS600. I used -8 manual iris and auto 2.

We are now offering with every RS500/600 purchase preloaded custom gamma curves. There will be three to chose from, so you can select which works best with your screen. The BT2020 color profile will also be loaded onto the projector. We will also do this for the RS400, but it is a $50 add for the RS400.
