Now this is very exciting.

The projector shown in the image is the RS3000 housing with 100mm lens.

I think that projector will be some serious coin. Well north of the 18K MSRP of the RS3000.

Replacement for the RS4500, or augmenting the lineup?

Here is my guess on what is going to happen with JVC.

RS1000 remains 6k MSRP (firmware update?)
RS2000 remains 9k MSRP (firmware update?)
RS3000 remains 18K MSRP (firmware update?)
Laser Projector based off of the RS1000 12K MSRP
Laser Projector based off of the RS2000 15k MSRP
Laser Projector based off of the RS3000 25k MSRP

The laser versions are not direct replacements, because it will not just be addition of laser, I suspect they will have increased light output and additional features.

And just to let people know, we started taking preorders a couple weeks ago. Of course, nothing will be firmed up until we have pricing.

Who knows - the RS4500 might stay. It has a different light path and certainly an industrial build quality. We certainly have a lot more questions that will only be answered at Cedia - which is one month away.

Laser Projector based off of the RS3000 25k MSRP

RS4500 is now $25K right?

Hmmm... laser version of RS3000 at $25K but RS4500 stays seems like a paradox, lol. Can't wait to see what happens though!

Nobody but JVC knows actual pricing - and they aren't talking - for another 4 weeks.

Right - I was just saying the speculation from you & Mike couldn't both be right. Y'all need to coordinate your wild speculation a bit better! ::)

Seriously though, I hope the $25k price for the RS4500 kind of sets the high mark for what we'd potentially see from a "laser RS3000". I know the JVC laser is better and the DILA design in some way isn't as easy to do as DLP but an extra $6-7K upcharge for laser illumination is a lot higher than on the DLP side.

DLP of course is missing 3 chips, motorized lens functions and lens memory, contrast and black levels etc.

What if a new laser RS3000 is 2200 lumens and the RS4500 is still 3000 lumens and they both stay in the line at the same price? We are going to have to wait 4 weeks to know.

Obviously most DLP projectors overall have lesser parts etc. Not comparing the whole, just replacing the bulb light engine with laser / solid state. It's not a $6-7K increase in price - there are multiple decent DLPs with lasers at $4-5K. Hell the LG HU810P is just $3K. No, they don't have LCOS black levels or 3 chips, but they are only around $2K more than bulb versions of the platform.

If this is pretty close:

https://www.projectorscreen.com/blog/JVC-to-release-3-new-4K-laser-home-cinema-projectors

- 2,000 lumens for the 4K laser entry-level model
- 2,500 lumens for the medium 4K laser model
- 3,000 lumens for the top laser model

That would be very interesting and more in line with the "laser RS3000" effectively replacing the RS4500 at around the $25K mark. Just swapping a bulb for a laser isn't worth 6 grand, it has to include other improvements as alluded to here like lumens, control over contrast etc.

We need to stop looking at these new projectors as replacements for the current projectors, because, I don't think that applies. Because I think JVC will make a laser projector in the RS3000 housing with 3,000 lumens. That is clearly not an RS3000 replacement. That is a model to go up against Sony's 40k VW1025. Next, I expect JVC to offer a model to go up against Sony's 20k VW915. Most likely using the RS2000 housing, but more lumens and laser. And for the under 10k segment, I think JVC will leave either the RS1000 or RS2000 or possibly both.

This would match up great with Sony.

RS1000 vs VW325
RS2000 vs VW715
New laser projector vs VW915  (Based on RS2000 housing)
New laser projector vs VW1025 (Based on RS3000 housing)

Mike & Craig, I get to some extent what y'all are saying and at least some of the realities behind it.

Speaking as a consumer I'm frustrated, though. I feel like Sony & JVC are practically the only real quality projection game left and they are kind of protecting their turf by keeping the pricing high especially on high lumen laser driven models. Meanwhile the more affordable but still good projector market has been ceded to LG & Benq (DLP) and Epson (LCD), maybe some others. If DLP could solve the black level issue they could probably have a sub $5K laser driven projector and it would completely disrupt JVC's & Sony's lines. Meanwhile, the flat panels keep getting bigger, better and less expensive, with more people asking what's the point of a projector at the huge cost increase to get something that has the lumens for HDR AND good black level.

The article I referenced above speculated that the laser versions might be only $2K or less more than the RS1/2/3000 models. If that's the case I will be interested when funds are available. If it's a $6K increase - which is the price of 2 complete LG HU810Ps and would put even the "laser RS1000" in 5 figures range... forget it.
