Mike & Craig, I get to some extent what y'all are saying and at least some of the realities behind it.

Speaking as a consumer I'm frustrated, though. I feel like Sony & JVC are practically the only real quality projection game left and they are kind of protecting their turf by keeping the pricing high especially on high lumen laser driven models. Meanwhile the more affordable but still good projector market has been ceded to LG & Benq (DLP) and Epson (LCD), maybe some others. If DLP could solve the black level issue they could probably have a sub $5K laser driven projector and it would completely disrupt JVC's & Sony's lines. Meanwhile, the flat panels keep getting bigger, better and less expensive, with more people asking what's the point of a projector at the huge cost increase to get something that has the lumens for HDR AND good black level.

The article I referenced above speculated that the laser versions might be only $2K or less more than the RS1/2/3000 models. If that's the case I will be interested when funds are available. If it's a $6K increase - which is the price of 2 complete LG HU810Ps and would put even the "laser RS1000" in 5 figures range... forget it.
Try buying into good Premier Cru or worse yet, Grand Cru Burgundy wine. It's expensive, and very niche. The same can be said for native 4K projection - with laser being more so.

" If it's a $6K increase - which is the price of 2 complete LG HU810Ps and would put even the "laser RS1000" in 5 figures range... forget it. " -

That projector has fairly lackluster specs. The only thing I see that is appealing is the price -

" 1.6x manual zoom , manual focus "

Cons
No 3D playback
Netflix and some other key services not supported
Middling input lag for gaming
Limited low-level contrast

" The trade-off: it doesn't have a particularly large lens that would have required that bigger chassis, though I found its UHD images at least comparable in sharpness to a 5050UB (a native 1080p pixel-shifter) that I directly A/B'd it with. Nor does the LG have any motorization for zoom, shift, or focus, which eliminates its use for a constant image height (CIH) installation on a 2.35:1 wide screen. "

" On the other hand, I should point out that I did observe some laser speckle. Speckle is a well known and common phenomenon with laser projectors that's caused by laser light being scattered randomly by the textured screen surface. It manifests as a kind of subtle, stationary haze that almost seems to sit in its own layer on the surface of bright objects of certain colors. In this case, it was visible in pure red and magenta objects and test patterns. "

Lets face it - the Sony, JVC and Christie native 4K projectors are for projection " connoisseurs ", much like that Grand Cru Burgundy wine is. And you will unfortunately pay more for it. And flat panel TV's certainly aren't anywhere near large enough - so I don't know what to tell you.

But, we don't know how much any new projector will cost, if there is only one, or really anything. Just over 3 weeks until Cedia - don't panic quite yet. It's all just a rumor until I see a SKU number / model number and an actual price!

Looking forward to the reviews. Will be interested if JVC WorldWide offer a Trade in program ( I’m dreaming, I know ) but if not very happy with mine :)

That would be cool, but unlikely I'd imagine. Hopefully JVC doesn't price themselves out of reach of too many people.

It's a non issue with the many improvements. I haven't missed my RS600 at all.

I like the mid-model the best because of the color filter. I don't really need the extra lumens considering my 110" scope screen (88" 16x9). I'm just curious of the lumens in the different laser settings (high/medium/low).

While I'd love to jump on one right now, I'll have to wait and see how the reviews are and decide if I want to jump on one early next year or not.

These look amazing on paper.

For me... maybe I'll be in the market for a used RS2000 / NX7 next year. ;D

I don't necessarily want to see one until there is one available - " cash and carry " - to take home. ???
