With the capability to expand to 13 channel processing, the 11Ch X6700H is likely to be the hottest selling 2020 model.  Call to get on our pre-order list as our initial orders are coming in small quantities only.

Yes, makes the 6700 an interesting choice vs the 8500.

Why do the X6700 have connections for 13 speakers on the back and it can only amp 11.2 channels? I get the 13 pre outs and the processing of the additional two channels, but wouldn't you connect the 12th and 13th speaker wires to the amp? I'm thinking of upgrading from the 6300H. It's 11.2 also. I have 4 of my 6 ceiling speakers wired together as TFL & TFR. With the 6700 I could have all six set up properly.  Is there a way two bring the sound back to the avr and use the last two height ports or am I missing something?

You need to add a 2 channel amp to run the full 13 channels -

FULL 3D AUDIO SUPPORT WITH UP TO 13.2 CHANNEL PROCESSING CAPABILITY

Immerse yourself in 3D audio with Dolby Atmos®, Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization Technology, DTS:X®, DTS Virtual:X™, DTS:X Pro®, IMAX® Enhanced and Auro-3D®. The AVR-X6700H supports up to 13.2 channel processing with 11 channel amplification. Add your choice of 2 channel power amplifier to fill-in extra 2 channels and build up to a 7.2.6 or 9.2.4 speaker configuration for more immersive, 3D audio experience.

It is because you can make a choice on what speakers you want to power with two of those amps, heights, wides, 2nd pair of front speakers or another zone. This has been the practice on AVR's for many years.

Your X6300H is an 11CH model with no further expansion capability, therefore only has 11 sets of speaker posts.  All of the current models with a 2CH expansion capability (ie. X3700H, X4700H, X6700H) feature an extra pair of speaker posts such as to allow externally powering either the Front L/R or the Height 2 L/R speakers.  Not sure what you mean by "bring the sound back to the AVR"?

I am on the list for a X6700h:D
What would be your suggestion for a universal remote to control:
Denon
JVC NX-7
ATV 4K
Oppo 103D
and perhaps mini dsp 2x4 HD with wifi

All of my gear is in the same open room (not in closet).
I do have everything hardwired for ethernet, but have wifi set up for my whole house as well.

I used a Harmony Elite for several years. My equipment is remote located. Last year I added a second system using a cheap wired IR system. I added the secondary system so that I could, if needed, use the manufacturer remotes and/or the Harmony. I did this because I am always making changes to my system and often times for setup or calibration you need access to buttons that are not on the universal remote. Very happy with this setup like this. Gives me the connivence of a universal with the ability to go in-depth using the manufacturers remotes. Wish I had done this years ago.

Thanks for the quick reply Mike (I was hoping you would chime in).
So,

Harmony Elite and keep the originals handy for calibration is your suggestion then?

I also do a lot of tweaking and calibrating (especially audio) with frequency sweeps, speaker and acoustic treatment placement changes.

Yes, that would be my suggestion. Will easily work well for you, with equipment in the same room. :)

The Denon X3700H and X6700H units are still on back order with no real ETA although hopefully by the end of the month.  We do; however, still have a couple of X4700H units available.

Thanks so much for the update Mike on expected availability.

This news is not what I was hoping for, but also was not totally unexpected.  It helps me with planning and utilization of my current set up in the mean time.

As you like to tweak, you'll want to purchase and download the Audyssey MultEQ Editor app (iOS/Android) which will allow you to edit the Audyssey EQ curves run using the app.
