You bet I will AVSjd:)

I can hardly wait to get started.
Will I still need REW and Umik-1 or will Audyssey and the app have me covered?

I run 3 subs.
Two in front equidistant from MLP and one in back...can I just skip the minidisp and use the dual sub outs to calibrate?

Regards,

As you like to tweak, you'll want to purchase and download the Audyssey MultEQ Editor app (iOS/Android) which will allow you to edit the Audyssey EQ curves run using the app.
Now that Audyssey has the APP, I am very pleased with the performance, even compared to Dirac.

If you want to get the absolute best performance, the MiniDSP is the way to go, but the learning curve is a bit steep but well worth the time invested IMO. It will ensure that all your subs are working together across the frequency range versus fighting one another at certain frequencies.

It wasn't too hard following this video -

Thanks Dave and Craig...I have tried to get my head around it and that video a couple times.  Maybe the third time will be a charm.  It really is a lot to digest for me.

Regards,
The secret for me was to have one laptop computer for running REW and MiniDPS HD, and a 2nd laptop running that video. I could just follow along. If I didn't quite understand something, I could back up the video and re-watch it.

I’d suggest getting a mic first and doing measurements before buying the miniDSP. I went thru the whole learning curve to integrate 3 subs and the best response was putting the two upfront (equidistant from MLP) on sub1 and the nearfield one on sub2 and calling it a day. Didn’t even need the miniDSP. 😖

I watched it twice and took notes. I then had it running on my tablet while doing it for the first time (like Craig). It made it much easier that way.

I'm going to run it again tonight. I adjusted one of the SB4000's location slightly, and I'm going to see if I can refine the sub alignment a bit. plus, I wanted to run Audyssey again anyway. And it looks like the power won't go off tonight.

Thanks so much for the pointers Craig, jkasanic, and Dave.
I will do that.  iPad and laptop right in front of screen with me...one small step at a time with the ability to pause and rewind.

Sincerely,

Did anyone here catch Amir M's review of the 6700H where his original sample tested pretty poorly - and Denon actually responded, investigated and fixed it, with a subsequent sample testing superbly? Pretty cool that happened.

Here is the updated 6700H review:

I did read that Paul...
I really wasn't sure what to make of it.   Seems like Amir and his testing is kind of a love it or hate it type deal.  That is to say, he has both fans and detractors alike.  I read the original review and was concerned for a while.  Then I started digging around a bit and could not find any owners or other reviewers complaining of anything.  I also noticed that Anthem seems to score very low on his methods and testing procedure, but you would never know it by the owners testimony.  I am super glad the 'new' ones test better (I have one on order) but I also wonder if it was a audible difference, or it had to be hooked up to a device to even know.
I am so bad, I was beginning to regret reading the original review because I know it would bias my opinion.  I really don't hear much of any sort of common complaints from denon owners though.  I mean, there is a certain failure rate with any manufacturing process and modern receivers are pretty complex.  If there is a recurring problem in denon receivers I have not heard of it.

What I am really curious about is...

Anybody have a scoop or idea what these might be...especially the one on the left
(AVS Craig, JD, or Mike!!!???)

@dutchboy, I have not read a lot of Amir's reviews but wondered that too. He seems to zip through a LOT of reviews and just focuses on technical testing. He seems to have some benchmarks for most tests that he wants to see gear meet to show that they've been engineered well, but correlating that to sound - as always - is a bigger task. He posts a review a day on average which is a frenetic pace for audio reviews, and clearly doesn't allow time for much detailed listening.

I just thought it was interesting that Denon saw it, actually acknowledged a problem (that part seems unfortunately rare for larger manufacturers) and actually was motivated to investigate and correct something. I found that surprising and refreshing. I know Amir's been around a while and has a consulting company but I'm not sure of his "pull" in the industry.
