JVC DLA-RS1000/N5 & RS2000/NX7 Owners Thread

I'm a new member and thought I would take the opportunity to post my first question to the owners of the JVC NX5.  I'm in the midst of planning my first dedicated home theater, with construction the space beginning in about a month.  

After reading the NX5 reviews and seeing it in person, I'm set on purchasing this projector.  My question relates to which of two Panasonic projectors I should use to connect to the projector.

I've read that Panasonic and JVC collaborated on settings that optimize the HDR image between the Panasonic UB9000. Does the UB820 also share the same software that would allow the 820 and NX5 to work in concert together?  Or do I need to spring for the 9000 to realize the full potential of HDR imagery on the JVC?

The room will be fully light controlled and the screen is a 125" AT Screen Innovations model with a 1.3 gain.

The collaboration with Panasonic doesn't matter anymore due to the DTM solution implemented by JVC. If you want a Panasonic, the UB820 will be perfect for you for quite a bit of savings. The high end UHD players typically have a better audio section for music listening, which may or may not matter to you.

Thanks for the quick reply.  So I shouldn't have to use any of the HDR optimization tools on the Panasonic player and just let the JVC handle the tone mapping?

Yup, the JVC's Frame Adapt HDR mode is better suited to handle the tonemapping.

As Dave indicated, you would not benefit from the Panasonic Profiles.

In fact, I'd take this one step further, and suggest the UB420, to save even more money.  The main difference with the UB820 is the lack of Dolby Vision, which the NX5 (or any other projector that I'm aware of) can't utilize anyway, so it should meet your needs just fine. (edited to clarify)

In fact, I'd take this one step further, and suggest the UB420, to save even more money.  The main difference with the UB820 is the lack of Dolby Vision, which the NX5 (or any other projector that I'm aware of) can utilize, so it should meet your needs just fine.

I haven't compared the 420 directly with the 820, but assuming that Dolby Vision is the only difference, do as DLC suggests and save the cash since you won't need that from the player. Good luck on the build out...start a thread and take lots of pictures  We love theater build porn

Any issues with using active hdmi cables?  Heard fiber optic can fry hdmi board without a voltage regulator (whatever there called). Either way, don’t want to pay price for fiber optic as I only need 12-15 feet. 

Interested in using monoprices new active certified 8k hdmi cable that will be available next month sometime.

Just need a premium certified HDMI cable at that length. We have a 15'er available.

haven’t really kept up with reports of the new firmware 3.10 and 3.5. Is it still recommended to put brightness setting to -1 on these projectors.

0 or -1 is usually correct.

It's always best to use a test pattern. There are several free ones available that you can use to check.

I'm really excited about trying out the DTM on the RS2000 once it arrives. I'm coming from the RS500 where it was a chore to get HDR viewable (helped immensley by Manni's curves and others who spent countless hours creating work-arounds for the technology.)

Congrats. Can’t wait to receive my rs1000 as well.  I would of liked to have gotten the rs2000 or even the rs3000 but funds were an issue.
Next upgrade for me will be when JVC laser comes out at more affordable options.
