Not sure. I haven't had this new projector for very long. I'm trying to compare the same content on various screens to see if it's a source or display problem. I have been watching YouTube videos of tilt shots (this is "interesting"), for example. There was a YouTube video I watched on my projector that had a noticeable light band in the middle during one shot. I can't really see it on my computer monitor, but I don't know if that's more an issue of how small my monitor is compared to the projector screen. So I've been sitting around thinking of things to watch with tilt shots---so far I've come up with Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know." Tonight I'm going to try to play a couple games that allow me to move the camera all over to see if I can still see this or what exact types of screens it shows up on. I've had LCOS projectors before, but I'm not familiar with this sort of thing being an issue, so I thought I'd ask here if anybody's heard of something like this before. To this point, I've seen it on the same game on both an Xbox One X and a Series X over different HDMI cables plugged into different ports on an HDMI switch. I've also moved the projected image to make sure it isn't some weird reaction with my screen---the band moves as I move the image, so it's an image issue.

Also eliminate other devices as the problem. Connect source direct to projector. But if it only occurs with one source and not another, it does not sound like a projector problem.

Even after talking to JVC, I still had some questions regarding Theater Optimizer set up. Here is clear explanation of set up for lens memory, horizontal expansion lens fixed in place, Horizontal expansion lens on a sled and vertical compression lens, fixed in place.


Lens Memory:

This is simple. Use the actual 16x9 projected image.

For example. You have a 120” 2.35:1 screen. 46.9” height x 110.4” width.

Your 16x9 image is 46.9” x 83.5”. 96” diagonal. Round up to 100”.

Your 2.35 image is actually a 62.1” x 110.4”. 127” diagonal. This is a 16x9 image where the black bars are simply above and below the screen. Round up to 130”.



Anamorphic.

For example. You have a 120” 2.35:1 screen. 46.9” height x 110.4” width.

Using an old school horizontal expansion lens, your actual 16x9 image is 46.9” x 83.5”. 96” diagonal. Round up to 100”. Turn on Anamorphic Scaling (A or B) in the JVC menu. Then set Theater Optimizer.

Using a newer vertical compression lens, your actual 16x9 image is 62.1” x 110.4”. 127” diagonal. It is then compressed. Round up to 130”. Turn on Anamorphic Scaling (C or D) in the JVC menu. Then set Theater Optimizer.



Remember that you need to “set” Theater Optimizer after inputting all other settings, and you need to do it for each memory/install mode.

If you're
(1) not using an anamorphic lens, and
(2) don't change your lens zoom for different aspect ratios because you like everything as big as possible,

then getting the diagonal size number to put into the Theater Optimizer is easy: just multiply the width of your image when Aspect:Zoom is on by 1.147 and then round up to the nearest multiple of 10.

This works because the diagonal of a triangle of a particular shape (like 16:9) is a fixed ratio to each of the other sides, regardless of size.

Even in Aspect:Auto, the whole image area is being projected, just with the outer edges masked - but that doesn't affect the amount of illumination in the center, which is all that matters to the Theater Optimizer.

You can verify my calculation by using the Pythagorean Theorem to get the diagonal of a 16:9 triangle (16 squared + 9 squared = the diagonal squared) and then divide the diagonal by 16 to get the ratio of the diagonal to screen width - you'll find it's very close to 1.147.

 It's a great projector. Some of the best bang for the buck performance out there today.

Edit:  I just re read my question  it’s pretty obvious as I’m sure it would save the settings. I was thinking to much. 

With anticipation of waiting to purchase my rs1000 in Feb. I had a few questions.

Do the settings stay the same when watching sdr and then watching sdr(3D)?  If I select in “auto pic mode” in the settings and select I want sdr for natural, this will make it select natural.
But if I then watch a sdr(3D) movie and I selected in “auto pic mode” I wanted this to go to cinema. And changed cinema for rec709 and 6500k. Will cinema always resort to the changed rec709 and 6500k?

Edit: 
I guess I was trying to say. If a sdr signal is detected, will my settings for sdr (manual iris, dynamic iris, etc) stay when I go to an hdr signal and then back to a sdr signal. And vice versa. Will my hdr/sdr(3D) settings for manual iris, dynamic iris etc stay when when I go back and forth.

Or do I have to change the manual iris for each signal each time.

Hopefully join you guys with an n7 in feb 2021 when stock becomes available. Does the n7 have improved hdmi sync times at the beginning of a movie unlike my current x5500. Cheers

They're improved over the e-shift models, but sync times are still slower than some of the other current models on the market.
