JVC RS3000

I am very happy to be joining the JVC DLA-RS3000 family quite soon. Is there anything I need to know about setup/configuration that you wish you knew on Day 1?

I also plan to switch from a 16x9 screen to a scope screen w/ DCR lens (if I manage to sell my current screen).  Any “gee, I wish I had known” moments that I can prepare myself for during installation & setup?
Hey BB welcome. Their a great projector.

Email me - craig@avscience.com. I've been compiling setup notes. I'll send them to you.

I would stick with original plan and have it sent to Kris.

Kris will do an excellent job at making sure the projetor is set up correctly for not just the projector, but for your entire system too.

Mike, Dylan: That’s deeeefinitely the ultimate plan!  But, I’m in sort of a predicament. I might not be able to immediately send it to Kris because the final screen solution is up in the air. If I can’t sell my current screen, then I can’t get the new screen, which means no DCR lens and i have to keep my current screen.  If I do sell my screen, then I can def have Kris calibrate for the new screen + DCR lens. All unknowns get solved by the screen sale, so I guess I need to set a hard decision date so I can know what to tell Kris.

He may be able to calibrate for your old and new screen material. Just explain the situation to him. I'm sure he can accommodate you. He has samples of most of the popular screen materials out there and can calibrate for them.

Is calibration outside of the intended room still a compromise or have all these FW updates made this more possible? Just wondering if I missed something?

Depends on how you do it. If the calibrator uses a screen sample of your screen, uses your throw distance and sets up his room much like yours, then it is pretty close to the same.

Yeah, I'd say the only thing he can't account for is the room itself. So if there isn't adequate light control or even if the walls are painted a certain color, it can have an effect on how the calibration carries over from Kris' theater into the owner's theater.

Barry,

It isn't out yet (not until Thursday). Be sure to take pictures of each of your screen settings since this firmware will wipe all of them out and you'll have to reenter the data after the update. According to my source at JVC, this is a massive improvement in how the projector handled HDR signals and is well worth the trouble of having to manually enter all the settings back in. I'm sure Mike will provide the link on Thursday morning when it goes live.
