The new firmware looks very exciting. You input screen size and screen gain. You also can select screen material. For scope screens you would calculate the 16:9 size using scope screen width. The projector then measures the zoom position of the lens, high or low lamp, iris setting and lamp hours. Then the projector optimizes the HDR for your specific setup. On top of that, it automatically adjusts as the lamp ages. Note for scope screen users using lens memory, the different zooms will be used automatically in the calculations.

Also taking care of those that have a Lumagen.

On the RS2000/3000 adding new color profile so you can do max brightness (no CMS) with and without the color filter engaged.  So, for a customer with an external CMS like Lumagen.

How will the new firmware work for the RS3000, 2:40 scope screen, Panamorph lens and Lumagen?  I'm finishing my theater renovation now so haven't unboxed or mounted the new projector yet but hopefully I'll be able to do that in the next 10 days to 2 weeks.  I'm very excited about the new video capability including what I know was a masterful calibration from Kris Deering.

Not Mike, but yes, the new firmware will work for you. Very nice setup and Kris will do a fantastic job for you. He's one of the best out there.

With having a Lumagen, you would still use it for HDR tone mapping to get the best results. The new firmware is more for those that do not have a video processor.

I misunderstood your question...totally missed the Lumagen (just saw the DCR lens). Sorry about that. Regardless, the firmware won't "harm" you if you install it

Just finished my initial Autocal calibration of the my new RS3000. Wow! not sure I could come up with a better superlative. The attached pics do not do justice (as I am not a great photographer) but they give a little idea of what this projector can do. These are all SDR and upscaled 1080 content as I have not worked much yet with HDR. This is a huge upgrade from my Sony 500es. My measured contrast was 30,000 to 33,000 to 1 depending on the aperture setting. I have been using -3 with most content so far. My Sony at its best was only 10,000 to 1 and toward the end, it was only 1500-2000 to 1. Sharpness is just impeccable. Color depth and clarity is as good as I have ever seen. I was wavering between the Sony 885 and NX-9. I want to thank Mike Garrett for his influence in helping me make this decision. Mike is a real pro and I really enjoyed working with him to get this projector. I look forward to getting this unit professionally calibrated though I am not sure how it could really look any better!

I am very happy to be joining the JVC DLA-RS3000 family quite soon. Is there anything I need to know about setup/configuration that you wish you knew on Day 1?

I also plan to switch from a 16x9 screen to a scope screen w/ DCR lens (if I manage to sell my current screen).  Any “gee, I wish I had known” moments that I can prepare myself for during installation & setup?
