And Epson seems to be the company still in the shadows. I'm hoping something exciting from them as well.

The latest from SONY...

Apparently SONY will be launching more than one new projector at IFA and CEDIA  ;)

Isn't there an old saying that good things come in threes?

They need a refresh of the line from the 5040UB up. They need a native 4K laser replacement for the LS10500. Let's hope !

There has been a recent price reduction for the LS10500 from £5500 to under £4700 here in the UK so I wonder if that means they've something new in the pipeline, or just discontinuing it if it didn't sell well.

New Sony projectors have leaked. :)

All three have 18Gbps HDMI and 4K motionflow
VW570 has 1,800 lumens.
VW870 has ARC lens, 2,200 lumens and an iris.

I do not understand the iris, since it says the iris and the laser can be controlled dynamically and independently?

Interesting. I'll be interested to see pricing too.

It's nice to see Sony fixing one of the blaring issues with their 4K lineup. I still think at $5000, the 270ES should have a dynamic iris. If JVC has something native 4K at $5000 with a dynamic iris, I just can't see people buying the 270ES unless some other aspect of the JVC is lacking by comparison.

I also see Sony has a new name for their convergence correction software:

Quote
Digital Focus Optimiser

Optimum focus is achieved, not only optically but digitally, by the Digital Focus
Optimiser. It compensates the possible optical degradation of the lens in advance then
outputs the optimum corrected images, so that even the focus in the corners is better
than ever.

I have to say I'm disappointed with 870's peak light output being only 2,200 lumens. I was hoping for 3,000 lumens.

I'm also slightly confused by what the marketing spiel says regarding the iris and laser.

I have a private meeting with SONY whilst at IFA, wherein I will obtain some clarification regarding this. I will also be taking some measurements ;)

Agreed and I feel Epson hasn't had anything interesting in a couple years so it's gotta be this year for them to have at least one ot two new models.
