True as far as the extra pixels go adding more light, but you also gain more lumen output when using more zoom. So there is more light to be had with either method. The question remains, how much is the difference and does the anamorphic lens beat it out still. I have an ISCO anamorphic lens here. If I have time I'm going to take some measurements later.
That's why the vertical compression lens wins over both. I'm already zoomed as wide as practical ( you wouldn't want to zoom to the absolute max anyway - I'm just under that ) and then I'm adding the lost light and pixels back in on top of that.
What are you using to scale up the height of the image?
Are you using the HDR tone mapping in the Lumagen or will you just use your custom curves for this demo?
So how tricky is it to calibrate using the Radiance Pro?
Though I still love the Lumagen, I'm back to using custom curves instead of the HDR tone mapping.
Why is that?
Well, I'm not entirely sure because I was bowled over by the Lumagen when I first got it. Then I added madVR and ripped all my UHDs and over time found I just wasn't impressed as much anymore. I actually started wondering if my projector was losing contrast or something. Then a friend came over who had never seen 4k or HDR and wanted to see some comparisons. He wasn't impressed with 4k and neither was I. I have 4 different memories for tone mapping and kept switching between them trying to find the setting that would show off the HDR to no avail.After he left I went bypassed the Lumagen tone mapping (sticking with true HDR mode on the RS4500) and was blown away - just like I used to be. So I will have to delve deeper into the settings I have but my impression is that color is just too compromised when converting to SDR.
