An upgradable input board for the projector would make it easier to swallow the $35k price tag in the meantime :)

I suggested that at Cedia.

Guy thought I'd pass on a little JVC convo I had with the local guys that I'm not going to post on the other forum. Their mail is that 'as far as they've been made aware' we won't see a 4500 replacement until next Jan. At this stage, it could take the form of an upgrade model or an entirely new model. The thought is if they were to go the new model route it would be consumer/pro unit in the $60K region with increased light output etc -sounds like a full VW5000 rival to me if so. Also, we will, predictably, see the implementation of full 4K in next evolution of the current lamp product range later in the year (should be nice).

Of course we say that every year.  ;D  We never say " this year there won't be squat at Cedia ".  ;)

Yes, but last year I was not expecting anything from JVC or Epson. Was hoping those two companies would have something new, but not expecting. This year I am expecting both of them to have something new.

Some Pics of the Oppo 203 Tone Mapping ( Mode 3 Target 500Nits) and @Javs V3 ( 1200 Nits) curve used with the UB900 on my Z1/RS4500.

Very close....

Interesting.

To my eye, the Oppo images seem to have slightly more shadow detail, although not much.  The Javs images seem to have a tad more saturation, although this may be secondary to being slightly darker on the low end.

What were your subjective impression in terms of the overall viewing experience?

Oppo looks good, especially when you consider it is just plug and play. :)

I got some further strong rumors via the Local JVC folks that the RS 6xx series will in fact go laser its next 4K iteration. I'm sure there will be big celebrations around the place if that happens!

So, the 9 series is like the RS500/600?

Talking about the replacement for the RS640. Laser would be very nice. :)
