Does anyone have any frame of reference to base an opinion on the Lumagen Pro vs Custom curves and the RS4500?

I am bouncing back and forth on the Lumagen Pro and it would be nice to have some real time feedback from anyone that has it.

Kris Deering does - and he's said the Lumagen is in another league ( as is it's price ). I'm on the fence too, but it's certainly sounds like a step above. I'm pretty happy with the picture now, so I have a hard time justifing the cost .

I can swallow the pill for the cost, but the amount of time I can spend w/ another piece of equipment with an infinite amount of additional "tweaking" that can be done is the thing that has me most nervous.  Being that my free time is extremely limited and adding another piece of customizable equipment to my HT might be too much.

I hear you there. My RS4500 is totally plug and play with the custom gamma curves now, it looks great, and I don't need to mess with stuff. I'm going to guess that a Radiance Pro would be best installed just prior to a full blown calibration anyway. Since Chad b won't be back in CA for a year or two, I'm in no hurry.

Kris Deering has used both.

Kris Deering has used both.

True - both the Oppo and the Radiance Pro. - the only thing he hasn't compared is a Arve's Tool custom gamma curve installed as part of a Chad B calibration, customized to his particular screen size and material.

Yeah and Chad I think is coming my way in a month or two so if I'm going the Radiance Pro route I need to pull trigger soon!   :-X

I'd send Chad an email about this - I think he just calibrated someone's system with one. Don't forget who sells them!  8)

I talked to him awhile back and he said he'd calibrate through but hadn't had any experience to date with one.  I actually got prices from Mike a few weeks back already.  I'll reach out to see what his impressions were.

Kris has also played with the custom gamma curves. Manni even made a few curves specifically for Kris's system, for Kris to test against the Radiance Pro.

Everybody has a slightly different way of calibrating / doing things. I can say that with Chad's level of experience and level of calibration equipment, I'm pretty sure the only way to get a much better picture at this point is if JVC comes out with a much better revision of the RS4500.

Craig where would like to see improvements. What are the projectors weak points?

To all RS4500 owners, looking through 80 something pages there are few to no screen caps. Everyone likes to see pictures, come on guys post some good screen caps. Convince me and others to purchase one:)

Fan noise, black levels are elevated compared to standard JVCs and dynamic iris is broken.  Other than that an absolutely STELLAR projector.

I'm using a Lumagen Pro but have never used custom curves to make comparisons.
