Craig are you still using laser dimming? 

I use Mode 1 dimming. Kris mentioned he uses Mode 2, but I tried it again and it's too aggressive. Mode 1 works well on my sized screen is is almost entirely invisible. I do turn it off for " Get Out " on 4K - there is one scene ( the dark place ) that trips it up. That's about it. 

Watched " Alita : Battle Angel " on 4K again last night with the latest Lumagen firmware. Everyone agreed that very dark scenes look outstanding, and there was a consensus that the picture looks much better now that Kris has calibrated it with the Lumagen in the mix !

Mode 1 does help and is invisible for the most part. I tried Mode 2 again but the opening scene on Alita Battle Angel it darkened the very first white title on a black background way too much. Mode 1 - no issue at all.

I primarily use Mode 2......i can live with the rare instances that it does become a little to agressive due to its overall performance verus Mode 1.

I always used mode 2 as well, but Craig disabled them when he did my calibrations and was wondering what others with the Lumagen in the chain were using before I turned it back on.  Thanks for the input!

I prefer an auto iris / laser dimming ( same thing really ) that is not obvious. The very first scene in " Alita : Battle Angel " for instance, is a one line title - white on a black background - that tells you what year it is. Looks perfect on Mode 1. It's really dim on Mode 2 . And I've had other key titles in other movies telling you a key bit of information go nearly invisible with Mode 2. Mode 1 still works when it really needs to, but it doesn't draw attention to itself with aggressive artifacts. So I use it on everything except the movie " Get Out ". The " dark place " scene trips up even Mode 1 and you can't see what the Hell is going on, when you should. Other than that one scene it's fine.

I've got nearly 1500 trouble free hours too, and with Kris's recent calibration of the whole system, and the latest Lumagen DTM firmware, it looks better yet again ! There was a time when if you wanted your projector to look better, you sold it and bought a better projector. With the RS4500, it's been getting better over 30 months with firmware updates and a few key accessories like the DCR lens and the Lumagen Radiance Pro. And a top notch calibrator that knows HDR and the Lumagen.

I loved it too, and Tweeting these screen shots got the attention on Twitter of the " Alita Army " - we aren't the only ones. Kris did get a measurement initially, but with the Lumagen DTM I agreed to trading some nits for better black levels and I can't remember what we finished up at. It's a much better picture overall - especially dark scenes.
