For those thinking the 4500 would be replaced this fall, I think JVC may have given us a clue. JVC has announced that they are doing another firmware update, adding new features to the RS4500. The 4500 will be getting the new auto tone mapping, the two Panasonic profiles and about 30 new screen codes. I think if JVC was going to bring out a replacement, they would not be adding new features to an end of life model. :)
Mike,

I just saw over on AVS you posted this on a thread there.

I will be without doubt even more of a Happy Camper when that takes place.
How would a current JVC RS4500 owner know that JVC actually did those New Up-Dates to the Firmware ???
And how would a Novice/Dummy like me know how to get those Firmware Up-Dates loaded to the RS4500 ???

I think in my case it would be making an additional appointment with Chad B ???

You would need to download the new firmware to your computer, and then load it on a thumbdrive. Then follow the instructions to install it.

You download the firmware update onto a FAT32 configured USB stick. With the download come instructions on how to perform the download, pretty simple. Then it comes down to how you configure the projector. The auto tone mapping should be better for HDR, as long as the source has the setup data. You could use one of the curves, but the second one uses the DCI filter in the projector and that costs you too much light, so I doubt you want to use it. As for where to get the firmware. Will be here, once available.

Thanks Mike for the information as always.
It seems unless I read where it would be some really noticable to me difference.
I'll more than likely leave well enough alone.
Sometimes if everything is working and working to one's total satisfaction leave well enough alone.
I'm very-very HAPPY :) with my current H/T and it's operation so I probably will not add the New Firmware.

Thanks again,
Terry

Full unzipped folder goes on root of formatted thumb drive. Plug it in to the RS4500.  Select update in menu.  Walk away.  Lights flash slow at beginning.  Fast at end.  Give it about 25-30 minutes.

It's hard to imagine the picture on my RS4500 getting any better, but the upcoming Lumagen firmware update sounds like it will make for an even better HDR experience ! Can't wait !

I haven't been following along. What does the new firmware update add to the Lumagen?

Jumping in w/ the Lumagen DCR combo and having system calibrated by Craig Rounds next week!  Can't wait to see the improvements to the already stellar picture the RS4500 throws.

Chris D. of JVC was amazed at how good my RS4500 looked - he hadn't been to my theater since I added the DCR lens and Lumagen. He said he's never seen an RS4500 that looked that good - so you are going to be very happy. I can't wait for Kris Deering to get here next week. His calibration will make another improvement for sure !

Lumagen 4446 is locked and loaded in the rack and Craig Rounds is in route w/ the DCR lens and calibration equipment.  Should be a fun 2 days.  Can't wait to see the end results!
