Come To The Dark Side !
« on: November 14, 2016, 02:29:30 PM »
One of the very best things I've done in my theater to improve the picture, is to make certain potions of my room dark / black. I couldn't make every surface black without pissing off my wife, but leaving parts of it dark grey while using a combination of black paint, protostar, black velvet drapes and black carpeting, have helped improve the picture quite a bit!

That looks good! I like that red on those curtains. Almost did that exact thing on my last theater.

It adds a nice theater like look, and helps dampen the room sound wise too !

I am now chasing the last reflections and it is my flat black ceiling. Trying to decide in
Black Commando cloth or Black velvet panels. Any suggestions is appreciated and cost
is always a consideration.

My room is painted entirely black and my ceiling is a problem area for me too. Getting quite a bit of reflection off the ceiling currently. I'd love to hear others (cost effective!) suggestions for dealing with it.

Not a bad price on that rug. I had a piece of black Shaw carpet I picked out bound on the edges like a gaint throw rug. 15' 6" x 11' . Cost more like $ 500.00, but it did the trick. A lot cheap than re- carpeting the entire room ( it was and existing room 0, especially if you factor in the possible divorce !  :o

I still want to replace my light carpet in my theater with a darker carpet but in the mean time I found a pretty large black rug for $50 @ At Home (formerly Garden Ridge). They have a ton of cheap rugs and may be a good place to look

Another option is to get the velvet they use in telescopes... It is a stick on velvet. It is literally a black hole. When we did it the only problem i had was getting it to stick to the pegboard we attached it to before attaching it to the ceiling.

I've got more cans of Roscoe Velour Black Super Saturated paint now. I should have time to paint a couple of strategic walls with it prior to March 5th !

More shots of the theater post Rosco Black Velour. It's been one of the best things I've done to improve my theater - making it dark in there !

What works well for black drapery for your walls?

Years ago, I bought and hung black drapes in my theater. They were pretty thin material and I have never really liked them but it was the only local option.
