...well Mike,  I'm also having trouble with the OPPO:  when turned on the screen is blank...no OPPO icons or anything...but I was able to play a DVD and 4K (the unit upconverts all content, I believe, other than 4K of course, to the 4K level).

Back to my saga of the "Old Man and the DISH Sea", if anyone is at all interested on this ongoing craziness...It turns out that I am the lucky one of two (the other in another state) having the same problem of receiving NETFLIX...DISH has no record of this happening to anyone else (that warms my heart).

This Wednesday, the Dish tech. supervisor and the Manager (of what, I don't know) are both coming out to....to...oh what the hell...If this turns out to be the end point of the story, I'll just have to live without NETFLIX although I've become so addicted to the channel's not having commercials thereby giving each episode in a series a nice flow that I'll miss that most of all.  Yes, I can watch/record shows of the CW channel and fast forward through the commercials but it is not at all the same (and the quality of the image and sound from NETFLIX is much better than the CW).

(Someone up there is not watching out for me.)

One more entry after they leave on Wednesday and I'll stop this outrageous saga.

Did you ever get your Netflix working 100% ?

Craig,

No.  Time Warner tried to get out of having a technician come out this am with testing tools but the woman who called was so illiterate of the issues regarding me situation that I cut her off and demanded that the tech. come with his equipment as previously scheduled.  She was shocked (and so was I by my anger) that she had nothing more to say.  He will be arriving in two hours.  The DISH HOPPER shows an ethernet connection between the HOPPER and the router but no connection between the router and the modem even though I have an ethernet connection attached to the modem.  The DISH HOPPER allows me to see DISH programing but, still, when I attempt to get NETFLIX and YOUTUBE, the message still remains "not enough band space".

The DISH technician is coming out tomorrow.  What he'll do is anyone's guess.

So...there you have it!  The joys of modern conveniences. Why is it so hard for Time Warner and/or DISH to understand that the modem will not speak to the router although the router will speak to the DISH HOPPER receiver.  I also have an ethernet connection between the router and the 4K OPPO player which does show active connection, so that isn't a problem (or is it!).

Craig,
You asked to a simple answer and unfortunately I have none at this time.  After the TW tech. leaves, maybe I'll hopefully have a resolution to this nightmare and give more information.

Thanks for asking.

Craig,
I'm only getting started!  Time Warner tech. came and went.  The ethernet cables for my phone and internet were in the wrong modems (I have two: one for the phone and one for the internet) to start with!  We then ran a test for the DISH connections from the modem to the router to the DISH HOPPER and all was well! (The test was run via the DISH menu diagnostics entry). WELL, all is not well.  The NETFLIX logo appears on the screen and remains there!  I cannot do anything but rebut the DISH HOPPER..which I did several times.  The TW tech said that it was something going on via the DISH receiver that is the cause of the problem. DISH tech. is comming out Monday am (was supposed to be tomorrow, Saturday, but a got an email that it was cancelled! I called and raised hell.  They could not tell me why it was cancelled and/or who cancelled it).

If you like this ongoing saga, I'll be glad to continue after the DISH tech. leaves (unless I lock him up in a closet until he finds a solution).

Oh don't stop until the final chapter. I'm going to knock on wood regarding my 1080p Dish Hopper, and be glad that it is working ! I await the next chapter...............

What is so damn frustrating is that DISH has replaced the HOPPER three(3) times already! Maybe it's the termites in the wall that are playing games with the wiring.  DISH has been so unhelpful in their three or four past visits that I don't know what can be accomplished this go round.  If it is something regarding handshakes coming into my home...what can it be?  Why should the HOPPER freeze with the NETFLIX icon on the screen?  Why does this make the remote control inoperable to shut the HOPPER down? Why did the last DISH tech. supervisor tell me to purchase the Roku 4 (which I did only to return it because the HOPPER itself should be giving me NETFLIX).  I'd like to put the following in capitals...but...what the hell is going on!

Maybe I'll throw a party after the nightmare ends and anyone who wants to come, visit me and enjoy some 4K/blu-ray films/concerts via my OPPO is more than welcome.  (I live in Santa Ana CA.)

Everyone have a Merry Christmas and enjoy all your holidays.

I hope everyone has had a Merry Christmas and will enjoy the new year.

(chapter 234; page 145)

DISH tech. came, realized the total problem regarding NETFLIX and especially getting 4K reception.  He spoke with the highest level technicians on the phone while attempting to resolve my problems (I even got to talk to her...what an honor!)  DISH, again, is fully aware of NETFLIX 4K problems and "is working on it" (....hum...I think I've heard that before...)

The end result is that the highest level DISH technical representative  will contact me within the next week with what ever results they have come up with.  CATCHER: If I don't hear from them...I'm supposed to call...(yes...I've heard that before)...BUT, this time if I don't hear from them and I have to call, I will not have to speak to the level one party who answers but, rather, I need to ask to be transferred to...wait for this..."DOCTOR DISH AGENT!"  Where do they come up with these ridiculous nomenclatures.  (All this is supposed to be in the notes that the answering party has upon my call...we'll see).

So...DISH KNOWS the problem...they have told me this before...BUT this time, I have the privilege of speaking to their top agent who, next to God, will wash away all my three months of anguish and tell me all is well.

I still believe the glass is half full, but the glass is getting smaller...

I guess I've run out of options here and have nothing new to relate to you.  I hope I haven't bored you with all this..but, I felt it was, initially, a JVC/DISH connected problem; that's why I started all these entries under JVC projector.

To, all: have a great day and week.

Craig,
...who, me, worry?!...
...well it seems that my misadventures in 4K NETFLIX reception may be coming to an end...
...Time Warner stabilized the minimum download speed of their service to me which now
hovers between the low-mid 70's to the mid 80's...I've run several tests yesterday and, again
this morning (it's 8:25am in sunny/cold Southern California).

I have had no trouble yesterday, after TW did it's thing in getting NETFLIX; however, the for the
rest of the day, all I got was 1080i receiption.  This morning I, again, ran a download test from
TW then put on NETFLIX...and, voila!...4K...I'm not jumping up and down just yet because I
don't know if NETFLIX will fluctuate between 4K and 1080i...I'll wait for a day or two to see if
it stabilizes at 4K.

I'm in correspondence with a Doctor Dish Agent (he is not as scary as his title implies) via several
phone calls and related to his answering device this am how things are.

If this is THE END, I feel, in a way, sad that I can't continue with further chapters/pages of this
saga.  I feel that I've either had a captive audience with all reading this or that I've imposed my
story on all of you!

One question though...the JVC projector makes a rev sound (if I can describe it that way) before
this am's NETFLIX connection and the resultant 4K image...is this normal?...does the JVC make
internal adjustments via these sounds when it changes from, let's say, 1080 to 4K?...

...either way...have a great rest of season holiday/vacation and have fun!

You are probably hearing eshift engage for 4K.  At least it sounds like things are working for you. What an epic !

Craig,

Thank you very much for your interest and care.  It's been a very long, frustrating three months of back forth games and I'm hopefully glad it's coming to an end.  (Now I have to find another subject category to involve myself in...otherwise, it feels lonely!...)

...Oh, I forgot...never mind...I don't remember what I forgot to ask!...(That's what age 75 does for you...but, I in no way do I feel 75 (well, maybe at fleeting times) but it was in relation to the JVC...oh, well...I've been accused of acting like a teenager, and, let me tell you...I'm PROUD of it!
