its a great point....by the time i get even remotly close to a new lamp...i upgrade

I had 1200 hours on my panny before buying the jvc....now I have 400 hours on the JVC and it will be a year of ownership come april...sooo I have a ways to go to even reach the panny.....im sure ill be selling and upgrading way before that point

Are you still in low lamp, or now on high? I doubt I could get much more than 1000 hours out of my current lamp before I'd be unhappy with the lumens, but maybe it will chug along in high lamp for quite a while.

I would say 50/50 or even 60/40 toward High from HDR & 3D since March.  My green droop was only one (gain) click up since August (I was at just over 600 at that point when Chad calibrated it again from the 1st round of HDR in March).  Real happy with the stability and unless the RS520 is a worthy upgrade w/ some unknown HDR improvement I may just get (my first in 7+ years for a JVC BTW!), a new bulb for when Chad gets back here in March.

With a bt1886 gamma on my RS500, I'm seeing that I can tolerate a little more brightness so I might bring Chad back out soon to bump me up from 12-13ftl to 13-14 ftl.  When I used to do power law gamma (say around 2.26) on my prior RS4810 I found 13-14 ftL a little too bright in my set-up for my eyes.  My room is very black and I've never liked a really bright image even with flat panels, but the bt1886 does change things.

You wouldn't like hanging out in my theater then. I'd prefer 18 - 20 foot lamberts. I'd love a laser projector that could maintain 18 foot lamberts forever.........................! As it is, with lamp dimming, I'm at 16 fl right now. I toss my lamps at 12 -14 foot lamberts.

It just depends on the type of room as 18-20 ftL could be fine, but my dedicated theater room is really black and dark.  But still, even my family room plasma is only calibrated to 30 ftL for night time viewing (white walls and light carpet).

My room is pretty dark. I think that when you watch Lawrence of Arabia, the sun in the desert should hurt your eyes like it would in real life. I also think that when they detonate a bomb in a movie, your room should shudder and shake and it should be  loud - almost like being there in real life. Movie magic !

Even at 13ftL, when a scene goes dark for a brief period of time, then goes bright...it's sort of like "wow" to the eyes as far as that brightness effect and adjustment initially.   

I will also say, going with dual 12" subs in my room (which is only slightly bigger than 12' x 10' with 8' ceiling) has made a really nice improvement along with those MartinLogans.

The JVC will be quite a bit brighter in a calibrated state. I measured 1100 lumens in low lamp on my RS600.
