That was indeed the best picture of the nominees. Glad they got that correct. Although other movies should have been nominated that weren’t

Eddington should have been nominated and won. I still think about that movie and its been a month since I've watched it.

That's the same reaction I had to it.  There're too many underlying themes to absorb in single viewing.

Watched Marty supreme. Not sure what to say about it. It was all
Over the place. Tomothee did an outstanding job. But overall move was meh
We watched this last night and felt the same way about it.  Directed and cowritten by Josh Safdie, who was half of the team behind Uncut Gems.  While his brother went on to make something completely different with The Smashing Machine, Josh uses the Uncut Gems formula, changes the time period and sport, heaps in many more characters and even more convoluted schemes for this one.

As a result, the movie feels like three hours instead of two and a half, running out of gas in the third act.

I'm not really sure how this got a Best Picture nomination, other than Chalamet being the current hot actor.  Fans of his may find something to love here, but by the midpoint of the movie it felt like a thinly veiled retread of Uncut Gems, albeit with a different ending.

Wife & I watched The Secret Agent a couple of weeks ago. I struggled with it, finding it hard to follow what the narrative of the movie was. Obviously it doesn't help that it's very much of a time and place that I'm not remotely familiar with, late 1970s Brazil. It did "feel" authentic but was lacking some context for audiences not familiar with the events portrayed, or the climate socially and politically. A lot of time seemed to be spent in "slice of life" fashion with the framing plot device feeling insufficiently clarified. It's got very strong reviews on RT though.
