Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny: Non Spoiler Review.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," starring Harrison Ford in his final turn as the iconic character, fell 56% to take second place with $26.5 million, while third place went to Angel Studios "Sound of Freedom," starring Jim Caviezel.

Likely because Millennials (and after) just don't get Indy and us GenX'ers just keep dying off.

Hollywood is changing, but it always has.  It does not really suddenly change, it evolves.
 
When TV entered the picture, with their pictures, Hollywood was hit hard.  England lost 60% of their moviegoers from 1950 to 1960. America lost about half of their 80 million weekly viewers.
 
Movies had to change to bring in viewers. Movies became longer, in color, in stereo, less censored and with new directors. Spielberg, Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, Lucas were innovators but now they are now remnants of an age gone by. Spielberg last movies, Indiana Jones, The Fabelmans, and West Side Story were not successful at the box office. Scorsese’s the Irishman wound up streaming. Marvel’s numbers, with the Spider-Man exception,  are down and DC, never that high, have sunk in their last three films. (Flash, Shazam, Black Adam.)
 
And that is the big deal, streaming. When home video began, VCR tapes and Laser Discs, it took a year for a movie to make it on home media.   Now it takes a couple of months.  Adults would rather stay home and wait a while, the movie audience has grown younger. Maybe they don’t remember Raiders!
 
I wonder if the “GRAND ERA” of “franchises movies” are over.  While there were always sequels, movies today are often packaged to be in a series.  Certainly, the Marvel and DC ones are, but so is Fast and Furious, James Bond, Spider-Man (Live action and animated), John Wick, Raiders, Mission Impossible, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, Despicable Me and so on.
 
Many of these movies continue to do well, but some do not. The Star Wars and Raiders series have seen their attendance drop, although Star Wars apparently does well streaming.  We have lost film studios, Fox, United Artists, MGM (now part of Amazon) and others.  This means less movies.  And less movie theatres.
 
 
 
I remember in 1985 when they released: Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins.  Well, it also ended then too!

I predict that the new Mission Impossible film will be the biggest film of the year. I know I'm planning on seeing it this weekend.

Well, I go to buy tickets for this weekend and surprise, surprise, there's a "special" early prescreen tonight at 7:00pm and I was able to score two tickets with pretty good seats. I guess I'll be one of the first to see the film and my wife and I are really looking forward to it.

The new Mission Impossible film is a ton of fun. I'll write something up tomorrow, but it's definitely worth seeing on the biggest screen possible with the best sound system. While my theater doesn't offer the size of my local cinema, but my audio is certainly better. Buy your tickets now.
