The Oscars

The Oscars
« on: March 28, 2022, 01:53:40 AM »
I had watched the Oscars every year since I was 11, but stopped 4 years ago. I didn't watch tonight, although my son made me aware of the incident between Will Smith and Chris Rock. If you haven't seen it, here it is:

https://deadline.com/2022/03/will-smith-slaps-chris-rock-in-the-face-on-oscars-stage-1234988514/

All I can say is WOW....makes you wonder what type of drug he was on????

I've always liked Smith after briefly meeting him in the late 80s at a concert in Northern California just before he became a household name as "The Fresh Prince."

If it was staged last night, then his publicist needs to be fired. Horrible optics. If it was real, then he needs some anger management therapy. While Rock's joke was insensitive given Jada's medical condition, how are we to know that Rock knew that was why her hair was so short?

I really don't think that was staged. Smith yelling, twice, from his seat at Rock to "keep my wife's name out of your f@$!ing mouth" didn't at all seem like something you would stage. Rock crossed a line in joking about Jada's alopecia. There have been worse but Smith's reaction was over the line too and not the right way to deal with it. The emotion is understandable in the moment.

Didn't watch the show though.

it was staged.

every year there is one "BIG" thiing to get people to talk about the oscars or watch teh next year.

eg. announce the wrong best picture winner
eg. bring up no black actors nominated for the major awards
eg. jennifer lawrance falls going on stage

im sure there are more but those are just a few.  Will smith was smerking the whole time....then all of a sudden his demenor changed with his swearing.  (i think rock was taken aback by the swearing...and was like ummm ok)

it was a typical roast joke.  and typical chris rock fodder...especially since pinkett smith posted she can only laugh about her bald head on twitter...

also Will smith posted  all dressed up for the chaos tonight (prior to the show starting)  the whole slap mechanics were overdone.  and chris rock was grimacing and leaning forward as soon as Will smith cam on stage....also if you get slapped,..you touch your face cause your unsure what just happened....Chris rock barely flinched..

Im not a conspiracy theorist....but this is 100% planned

Either way, millionaires fighting to get that public media push and eventually for both to get more millions.

What is that famous saying? There is no such thing as bad publicity, as long as they say your name!

I didn't watch the telecast but did see the replay.

For what it’s worth, I don’t think it was staged. I saw some other camera angles that show Jada flashing daggers at both Rock and her husband while he was laughing. Some words were said and Smith went off. If it was staged, he wouldn’t have been laughing 30 seconds before he goes up and smacks him! Given the amount of (negative) publicity around their marriage, I think he took the opportunity and went way overboard.  I also heard Rock was just commenting on her haircut and was not aware of the reason - but who knows on that one.
