Don't expect a razor sharp image as you see from modern digitally shot films. That's not the look of these films at all.

According to the press release, these are new 4K transfers for both the UHD and Blu-ray.

 Star Trek The Motion picture does have a strange place in my AV life. It was the first movie I got on Beta.
 
I had seen the movie, twice in the theatres. The opening scene with Spock on Vulcan, and many other scenes were at night, or a twilight.  On tape the movie was pan and scan and these scenes looked awful, too dark and washed out.
 
On Laser, DVD and Blu-Ray they presented these scenes as if they were in daylight. So you got the point, but the atmospheric imagery was gone.
 
Tonight, I saw the movie on 4K and for the first time in home video, the scenes were done just right.  The mood and darkness were there!!!
 
So after 40 years, home video has finally obtained Kolinahr
