But, they typically don't use large screens because projectors typically had more input lag.  Some are pretty low now...

nope not the reason....when needing fast reaction time...the last thing you want to do is move your head to see another side of the screen....they only want to slightly move their eyes.  a serious gamer will not go with a screen bigger than say 42" for just this reason...(mind you I am talking about first person shooters where input lag would actuallly matter not RPG or anything like that)

The other addition is hybrid log-gamma for HDR.
Developed by NHK and BBC, I think the only HLG content available now is with the BBC iPlayer.  Perhaps US broadcasters will use it someday.

The only big news with these new projectors is the gaming mode - which is great for gamers.  :)

Will JVC do what Vizio did?.  Vizio specified one HDMI input for game mode; it does not support HDR.  The other 4 inputs support HDR but not the reduced lag.  Lots of grumbling from Xbox One S owners.

Translated...  "Auto calibration function with gamma adjustment function"

Is this something new or just referring to AutoCal?

No one ( other than JVC ) knows the answer to this. I will add this though - if JVC comes out with 3 new projectors at the end of 2017, they will have had 10 different models available during 2017 - which would give people in their shipping and inventory department a nice headache !  :o

I just bought a new RS500, so it's going to take something significant for me to already upgrade again next year - and it would have to be at similar price.  I just don't see that.  Now, maybe in 2-3 years.

Despite what the marketing folks say, projector improvements year to year / model to model, tend to be incremental, rather than revolutionary. The current JVC's were a pretty big step up from the previous models though, in my opinion. But I've talked to several people in the last few weeks that are just getting around to upgrading from RS1's, so waiting awhile will certainly get you a more significant upgrade. I still am guessing that true 4K at current prices won't happen before 2020.
