thinking of grabbing a panny 820
« on: August 04, 2018, 10:57:52 AM »
NOw that they are available IM thinking about grabbing one and selling the 203...I think  can benefit from the TM on the 820 as it is working correctly over the 203.  even though my Javs curve works well with my rs600

anyone else looking at these?

I'm thinking of picking one up but, I think I'm going to hold out a little longer as I need the funds to finish my theater room.  I'm looking forward to JVC projector owners reviewing the Panny 820.  :)

anyone who have the UB820 and the S&M test disc who can run the luma and chroma multiburst pattern, and see if Panasonic got the procesor in the new series right, and not messed up like in the UB900.?

Set up my UB820 w/ my RS4500 and watched Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Saturday.  Leaving everything set to -0- and using the SDR/2020 tone mapping and 2.4 gamma I thought the film looked really good.  The image was supre clean however I felt like I was missing some color?  I didn't want to do any on/off testing during the movie b/c I was watching it with family, when I get some time I am going to play around some more.  Chad B is coming out on Oct 28th to calibrate so should be fun to see what he comes up with as well!

I'd be interested in your A / B observations, and Chads too of course. I'm still slumming it with a UB900.

;D  I have my UB900 in it's box and I have an Oppo 203 that I use on my LG OLED.  I am going to sell one of them just not sure which one.

Chad gave me three curves for HDR. So far I've only had to use Custom1 for normal picture with my UB900.

Notes: Meter mulplier of 3.9 used; actual light output = 127.6 nits  For normal picture, use gamma Custom 1.  For a brightness boost, use Custom 2.  For a darker look with better highlights, use Custom 3.

So, it'd be interesting to compare with an 820 and it's auto-tonemapping, but it does generally look like HDR is pretty well covered with his work.

Chad's curves are excellent and I don't think anyone can do better with them than him, but I prefer the 820 with my RS440.  I'm at 108 nits.

Anybody using the 820 outputting sdr2020 with Netflix?  Watched the outlaw king last night and it seemed like during low apl scenes I was seeing a lot of noise in the picture.  When the scenes moved out doors it completely disappeared.  I then watched it in HDR via my ATV4K and the artifact was not present?  Might be a tone mapping issue with the panny and how Netflix work together?

Or maybe the Panasonic dont really stream full resolution and bitdept, there has been some discussions about that. I know it wont stream the youtube 4K testpatterns right, wich the XBOX do perfectly, might be worth checking.

Won’t stream when outputting SDR or HDR?

It will stream, but if you been playing with different streaming solutions you will know that no devices look the same, youtube have this nice status for nerds feature, where you can see the source resolution, and the resolution your reciving, and amount of data.
When streaming testpatterns where they have build in 1:1 pattern checkers you spot it right away. on top of that comes the bitdept, and if its not there, and you add tonemapping guess what.
