Funny this apsect...

Just recently i was ask how much the Z1/RS4500  cost me, after telling him , his eyes bulged and he expressed absolute shock! ..( his reply ...Bl**dy hell, that much just for a HT projector!!)

The same person only just recentley purchased a pair of Tidal Speakers for $65K....but thats OK!

Now that is funny, because I can see spending for an RS4500 long before I could see myself sinking 65k into a pair of speakers. And most anybody that is into HT would view it the same way. Of course, anybody that was into 2-channel probably views it the same way he does.

The only way to resolve this would be to do a direct comparison of the two.  Trying to use price or weight as indicators here seems silly.

That would be very difficult to do. I doubt a demo/review sample of the ISCO can be had. The 1.25x ISCO lens is meant for commercial applications, ie for $100,000+ commercial cinema projectors which is why it costs as much as it does and is as large as it is. However, its 1.25x horizontal expansion is a perfect match for these JVC and Sony true 4K resolution projectors so many enthusiasts have picked them up on the used market to use with their home theater projectors. Luckily CineSled makes an compatible model if you want a motorized transport. I see one for sale on ebay for $6000 and I've seen them sell for as little as $2500. That was before people realized Sony and JVC were going to have true native 4K projectors. Now the price for them on the used market has gone up. But if you want to let me borrow $6000 I'd glady fly out to Craigs for a little shootout.

But if I were to spend that kind of cash on a projector they freak out. "What a waste of money" they'd say. I'd rather drive my Toyota Camry and have a home theater than have just a nice car that gets me to the same place as the Toyota would. Though I suppose you could say the same thing about the $300 LCD TV and it's built in speakers. For both of these luxury items it's about the experience/ride using them not what you get when finished using them. Both cars get you from point A to B and both displays/sound systems show you the same movie. But I'd say the home theater experience is dramatically better over the TV/built in speakers than the few times you get to accelerate fast in the sports car over the Toyota.

Agreed!  I use my theater for hours a day and am in my car for as little time as possible.  My wife and I have dedicated about half of our house to the theater ;0

I am thinking about getting into a 4500 (if a good deal is to be had) and I think I can get away with watching HDR content with the filter in play. I have a 110" 1.3 gain ST130 screen with a 15ish foot throw. If the numbers I have found are accurate then I would have...

2500 ish calibrated which with my screen gain and size would be around 90FL, and if I used the filter with a 40% drop I would be at about 1950 lumens with screen gain which would be about 55FL for HDR Movies.

That all sound about right?

Yes, it should be plenty bright enough for you with filter in place. If you want to discuss a B-stock, let us know.

I wouldn't get super hung up on using the color filter. But you could - your screen is small enough, it might be bright enough even in mid laser, calibrated. I couldn't see much difference myself between the filter and the HDR pre-set. Now that my projector is calibrated wit the pre-set and Arve's tool custom gamma curves, it looks spectacular. If you can swing the Panamorph Paladin lens, you'll squeeze a lot more light for 2.35:1 too.

Where as shooting screen shots before was sometimes difficult due to low light scenes being hard to photograph, now 47 foot lamberts is almost too bright !

With these super bright projectors, even with velvet on the walls, does your room light up?  Seems like it might which could be distracting?

No. With 4K HDR, it's only parts of the picture at times that is 47 foot lamberts. It's not too bright at all. My room tames reflections quite well. Blu-ray is still 18.5 foot lamberts for 16:9. It's just bright enough all the time in my opinion. At 47 foot lamberts it just brings out details in scenes you wouldn't see very well otherwise -

So the Oppo 203 is still available but is going away soon.  Is this the end all of be all of UHD blu ray players for this projector, or are there other good alternatives?

There is nothing wrong with the Panasonic UB900 player. I still have one - great player.
