He is referring to Kris and I. Kris sold, because he wanted more light output for his new larger screen. Kris considered a VW5000, but since that projector is getting long in the tooth, Kris decided to wait and see what is available this fall. I sold, because that is what I do. I buy, keep a year and then sell, so that I get my money out of the projector. Then I buy the next new model. I did this with my VW600 and RS600. I picked up an RS640 as a temporary projector in my dedicated room. Though I do plan to keep the 640 longer term, by moving it into my media room, once I have a replacement for the dedicated room. I have no idea what I will buy. This fall, I hope JVC, Sony and Epson introduces native 4K models that I can consider. I am really going to miss the 4500. It is on it's way to its new owner.

As far as the ranks getting smaller, I know of three new RS4500 owners this month alone.

My RS4500 isn't going anywhere. As for something " new in the wind ", nobody knows. Maybe, maybe not. Half the time the something new is a slightly better version of something current. With a new model number.

Kris reviews projectors so for him, there is a slow but steady parade of projectors marching through his theater anyway.

I had always planned on selling my 4500. The only question is when. You never know, when it is a good time to sell or not.  If nothing great comes out, I sold too early. I am excited for the future, even though I have no idea what is coming.

Disregarding the image the 4500 throws, I already miss my 4500, due to the processing alone. The 4500 can do vertical stretch with 4K 60P sources. The 640 can't. I can set Roku to output native 24P and then be able to use the vertical stretch with my A-lens, but then the lag time when scrolling through the shows on Roku gets ridiculously long.

I can use the Oppo 203 for vertical stretch of 4K 60P sources. So I can route the Roku through the Oppo and do the vertical stretch of the 4K 60P content.

Mike,  Regarding the image.  How are you honestly finding the image from the 640 coming from extended viewing time with the 4500 ?

As for myself, i hadnt viewed my X9900 for a while as i have been playing with a friends Sony 760ES and my Z1/RS4500....firing up the X9900  again after a time really did show up the shortcomings of E-Shift ..

The 640 is a really good projector, especially for the money, but the 640, just can't compete against te 4500. The 4500 just provides a sharper, cleaner image.

For those interested , some results of the Oppo 203 and Panasonic UB900 and the Z1/RS4500

I have had the Oppo 203 since its initial release, i wasnt happy with its performance image wise so purchased the UB900 . I still retained the Oppo 203 and try it from time to time with newer firmware as updates are released. I always end up still preferring the UB900 image wise.

With the advent of the new HDR mapping that Oppo has implemented, i got all excited again. In preparation of getting the new firmware (which is still not available here in Aus) , i decided to check settings on the Oppo and set up a profile on my Z1/RS4500 .

I have been spending a large amount of time recently watching the Series "Game of Thrones" which are some of the BEST quality Blu Ray,s i have seen.

Decided to do a comparo against the UB900 on these disc,s.

Once again the difference in image quality...Detail/Sharpness/ Colour is still "substantially" better on the UB900...its not subtle!

Game of thrones....Season 6 first disc chapter 4......starts off with the Tyrian and Varys walking down the Castle walkway...In the background on the tallest stone tower there are many "white" rocks in the stonework.....the UB900 renders these with clarity and detail. The Oppo 203 "Smears" them to the point of not being recognisable at all!

Various scenes along this chapter have stone walls and brickwork of the castle in view, also paver,s on the walkway.... the UB900 again renders these with far greater detail and sharpness.......

I "was" keen to try the new HDR "Tone Mapping" , but now not so!! Even if the Tone Mapping is successful i am not sure i would like to sacrifice the substantial increase of Detail and sharpness that the UB900 provides over the Oppo 203.

Even though the above comparison used HD Blu Ray, i know the results of UHD will yield similar results as they have always done..

So IMO, the UB900 is still the "top Dog" if you seek outright image quality..

The UB900 paired with the Z1/RS4500 makes for one hell of an image..

I have both as well, but I think the Tone mapping feature is only to be used viewing a UHD disc if I am not mistaken so might behoove you to give a UHD disc a try.  I have seen positive responses from others w/ lamp based pjs.   I have my Oppo hooked up to my OLED so I haven't tried it yet but i am curious to know how the tone mapping works w/ the RS4500.
