Subsequent laser models with higher native contrast will allow for less aggressive dimming to be used. Hopefully it's a combination of higher native contrast and refined algorithms.

Surely that will be the natural evolution of improvements going forward. The only question is when.

I have bugged JVC about working on a further revision to the dimming software. One has to assume that anything learned creating improved firmware for the RS4500 can be useful with any future upgraded models anyway.

The next revision to the dimming software will be on the RS-4520.  Start saving.  :) ;)

Already ahead of you on that. :) Just put a big chunk of money into my savings account, waiting until this fall to see what is offered.

So, what are the rumors for the JVC line up for Cedia 2018?  I'd like an e-shift machine but, 8k please!  :)

So, 4 models?  Top dog, and three others?  8)

No rumors yet, but I think JVC needs to step into native 4K this year, though I think a laser version of an RS640 would be a fantastic projector.

I could really go either way personally.  The only real complaint I have with my RS600 is the flicker in mid-high tones.  It seems it's "normal".  I've heard the laser is calmer (both the LS10x00 and the RS4500) but there are too many variables there, is it really the laser, or is it the different panels/drivers.

I'd be happy with a Laser or Native 4K (ideally both) under $10K MSRP, so long as the flicker is dealt with.

I have a question, I have not read much into the specs of the JVC. Do the new models have 12-bit processing throughout? Does the JVC or has JVC announced support for Dolby Vision or HD10+ ?
For instance, I heard it cannot do 12-bit 4k 60.
I am asking because the competitor says it takes 12-bit but reality is, it downconverts to 8bit to process then upscales back to 12. Typically marketing can be misleading. Who knows a thing about a thing or two :D

Here are the full specs - http://pro.jvc.com/prof/attributes/specs.jsp?model_id=MDL102459&feature_id=03

No projector that I'm aware of does DV or HD10+ . Heck, seems like even 4K UHDTV's are having a hard time actually doing DV ( at least the Sony's in the news lately )!

Yes the 4500 does 12 bit 4K 60P 4:2:2. That is a max signal of 17.9 Gbps. That is as high as you can get with the current HDMI spec. No projector does Dolby Vision.

Sorry, I said this wrong, what I should have said was I heard the JVC is limited to 8 bit at 4k 60 4:4:4

Mike yes at 4:2:2. Besides JVC spec's has anyone confirmed the JVC has a 12-bit pipeline.

Everything is limited, it's a limitation of HDMI 2.0.  8 bit 4K 60 4:4:4 is right at the limit of what HDMI supports, 17.9Gbps or so.  I believe 4K60 12-bit 4:4:4 is about 25Gbps, and will require HDMI 2.1.

Nothing out there is doing more than 4k 60p 4:2:2 12 bit because that is max HDMI spec for HDMI 2.0. We have to move to HDMI 2.1 to go above 18Gbps HDMI. Right now, there are zero HDMI 2.1 devices.

Why do you say that?  Who do you know that is no longer an owner?
