JVC RS500 / 600 Owners

I know a few are convinced at the other site native 4K will be implemented into all of the RS lines for next year with current pricing. lol

JVC looks to be doing 2 year runs on projectors. Does it really make sense for them to come out with a 4K lamp based projector for the RS400, 500 and 600 next year? Besides if JVC did this for the RS600 replacement, it would have to add a significant cost to the projector, adding that huge lens and the 4K chip. It certainly would not be at the same price point. I could see a possibility of that happening, with the RS600 replacement at 15K to 20K MSRP.

Kraine has posted that JVC is bringing out new models. I find that hard to believe. My guess is new firmware update. Things that could be improved:

1.  Allow iris to close for full fade to black when viewing 4K UHD BD with HDR.
2.  Improved 4K UHD BD functionality.
3.  Reduce sync time.
4.  Gaming mode.

A new JVC 4K lamp based, with same quality as RS600 lens should be able to be priced competitively with Sony's vw665, which is above current RS600, but still much more accessible than the Z1.   The Z1, like Sony's vw5000 are state of the art products with pricing accordingly.  But Sony has other 4K pj priced within at least something less of lotto winner, it seems reasonable that JVC would want to compete with it's closest rival.  I am making a big assumption in that the quest for true 4K/UHD projection with 2K to 4K UHD BR or 4K mastered BR would be a very noticeable and desirable picture improvement over eshift on same material on a largish screen at common seating distances.

I think a laser based RS600 would be a better option. Especially if it gets a gaming mode. That would be a killer RS600 replacement.

If eshift 4K continues to hold resolution comparable to true 4K as (if?) we move towards 4K mastered sources then you are absolutely on the mark, and pricing is competitive of course.

Within the next couple of years, I could see JVC offering a lamp based native 4K entry-level projector using the same lens, or perhaps a modest upgrade from the standard lens, found on the current e-Shift models.  That would not really be much different from what Sony has done with their mainstream 4K projectors (i.e., 300, 500 and 600 series) where a much less expensive lens is used as compared to the VW1000, VW1100 and VW5000.

Hopefully JVC won't use a lesser ( cheaper ) lens like Sony did. It will be interesting to see what comes out over the next 4 or 5 years. In the mean time, movies have never looked as good as they do now, on the current models, that's for sure !!

On the other forum, there is talk of new models coming out. JVC usually runs on a two year replacement cycle. So those that think JVC is going to bring out completely new units are going to be in for disappointment. This does not mean that JVC can't or will not make a change, just that we are not talking all new units with different specs for lumens and contrast. I know more, but can't say.

I'm going to guess JVC will refresh the current RS models similarly to how they went from the RS40 to RS45, etc.

If I was in the market for a new projector and considering JVC, I probably would not wait. But I would advise each buyer based on their specific wants and needs, as to what to buy and when to buy it.

I would guess they will refresh them next year at Cedia, like the usually do !

We don't really know when the RS4500 is really coming - unanticipated delays and unsubstantiated rumors are sort of the norm in home theater it seems.  Heck, where are those " 4K " single chip DLP projectors that were supposed to be out by now ?

Current ship date is sometime in January for RS4500. This is as of yesterday. I sent an email to all of my customers that ordered to let them know.
