Favorite Discs for great sound
« on: November 07, 2016, 12:02:08 PM »
I have recently started to get SACDs, DVDA, and Audio BR discs, and have found that some discs are significantly better sounding than the original CD.

What are your favorite Discs to listen to, or to show off your system?

Mine are (in no particular order)
1: Frampton Comes Alive (absolutely one of the best live recording I have ever heard).
2: Keb' Mo- Just like you
3: Frankie goes to Hollywood- Rage hard the Sonic Collection (5.1)
4: Talking Heads- Speaking in Tongues (5.1)
5: The Charlie Byrd Trio with special guest Ken Peplowski - The Bossa Nova Years (5.1)
6: The Beatles-Love (5.1)
7: Roger Waters-Amused to Death (5.1)
8: Steely Dan-Aja
9: Dire Straits- Brothers in Arms
10: Eagles- Hotel California

Roger Waters Amused to Death.
If the Q sound on that one is working right you know your gear and room is working very very well.

That it does. I also have the 5.1 version he came out with this year (I think it is BR as I recall).

I am sure some others have noticed that the 5.1 discs sometimes sound entirely different than the other mix. Some sound really fake while others sound great, and also by the use of 5.1 you hear certain instruments come out of the front sound-stage that were part of a mash of sound before. If you haven't heard 5.1 albums before on your setup...pick a good one, and take the plunge as chances are you will be hooked on stereo High Rez and 5.1 High Rez discs! They are especially good when you want to show off your system!

Is it a standard well mixed album or is it a Hi Rez album?

I dont believe in Hi res recordings make a difference in sound (that is over CD quality)

Give the SACD, DVDA discs a try and I think you will be surprised (I know my friend and I were both surprised).

I will see if I can find the disc, and give it a listen. :)

I own a few sacd's and hires downloads from HDtracks...that is where I am coming up with my conclusions....SACDs i DO like cause they are mastered for them specifically...HDtracks not so much (more of what I was referring to)

Oh... I agree that HDTracks is not as good as SACDs.

Can you please send me a link for "The Beatles-Love (5.1)" disc that you are recommending? I want to make sure that I purchase the correct version.

Thanks for your help.
