Favorite scenes to demo your home theater
« on: November 07, 2016, 11:45:53 AM »
Everyone has their favorite scenes, whether it's to check your settings, impress your friends, or just to enjoy!

I happen to like the Hunger Games' cannon shot. There's great ambience, dialog, and all of a sudden BOOM!

So many to choose from -
Gravity - quite a few that really show off the contrast of this projector.
Lucy - first 5 minutes, last 5 minutes.
Fury - Tiger tank battle scene - great subwoofer demo ( picture looks good too ).
Star Wars : The Force Awakens - several.
Spy - about the cleanest sharpest Blu Ray I've seen.
Edge of Tomorrow - great picture, room shaking audio.
Oblivion - same as above.
Lone Survivor - also great picture, room shaking audio.

The start of Operation Valkyrie, the nazi flag waving right in front of the camera, its a hardcore test on color polution in and out of black, but if its working its very cool, and then later where they are in Africa and the plains attack.

I've been wanting to watch this movie again ( I liked it, even if the critics did not ). Thanks for the reminder, and another reason to watch it !

Going back a bit here.....The early scene in Transformers (the first one) where the first Decepticon (the Apache chopper) transforms....Great highs, mids, lows...It's all over the place.  Loud, looks cool, and I'm like, "Daaaaaang"!  Every time!

For Atmos content:
  • Star Trek Into Darkness- the opening scene through the part where Kirk jumps off the cliff into the water
  • Unbroken - see the scene with the full-tilt bombing run - most to all channels have content. A fantastic selling point for high channel content with a Trinnov Altitude
  • Lucy - I'll go with the beginning and end as well

Music with the upmixer of choice (75/25 DSU vs. Neural:X; it's not ALL movies LOL)
  • Marcus Miller's bass on "The Panther", from Ramsey Lewis Legends of Jazz
  • Bruce Springsteen's "Bobby Jean" on Live from Hyde Park, for the rich mix of guitars, bass, keyboards and the Big Man on sax
  • Shakira's "Whenever, Wherever" for, ahem, the soundstage and guitars

Audio Gear: Trinnov Altitude 16/24, NAD M27 and Wyred4Sound MMC-7 amps
Display: Panasonic VT50, Lumagen Radiance Mini. Misc.: Oppo 103, Samsung K8500 UHD player
Speakers: PSB Imagine T2, Center, Imagine T Wides and Side Surrounds, Imagine S rear surrounds,
PSB Imagine XA (4), HSU ULS-15 subs (2) - 9.2.4
Coming soon - JVC RS600, AT screen, Lumagen Radiance Pro

Music is the main reason behind my upgrade to the A3060.  So when reading forum material, it's almost always on.  And once in a while something reaches out and snatches me away from the reading.  Just now it is Alison Krauss and Robert Plant "Please Read the Letter that I Wrote".

Somehow I missed most of the posts that start this thread but saw the "Bobby Jean" reference.  For a video/audio treat, I love the train car scene in "The Lone Ranger" where he is sitting as the bandits begin their attack.  First you hear (over behind MLP right shoulder) the galloping horses, then the big bump as a bandit jumps on the roof followed by his footsteps across the "ceiling" front to rear.  In my living room, this is especially spectacular as my vaulted ceiling is actually above the foot stomps which cross mid-air at about 8 ft.

And, btw, this is with a DTS HD MA mastered BR -- not Atmos or DTS:X.  Oh the wonders of Neural:X and "Enhanced" DSP on the A3060!
