Pro Amps

I have in the last couple of years switched to all Pro amps, and I am generally very happy with them.  I originally started with all Yamaha P2500S amps, and a P7000S amp...I loved the way they sounded but my rack was full, so I went to multi-channel Pro amps. The Pro amps I went to are Crest Audio CM2208 8 channel amps.

The original Yamaha P2500s amps were awesome 2 channel amps that never had the fans turn on (a big plus). The downside was I had to use cheater plugs to stop ground loops, they had filled up my rack, and I still needed more (I needed 14 channels of audio). So the journey lead me 2 getting 2 CM2208 8 channel amps... I got a great deal on them and they sound good. The downside to them is fans are always on and even after installing quieter fans they still are too loud. The other downside is that they use Phoenix block connectors. I have been told that this is a much more reliable connection for a permanent instal, but IMO it is a pain to wire these up this way, plus it means you can't just swap out an amp without getting new cables.

Now I have a dilemma...live with it, buy new fan less amps, or move the amps to another room. The problem is if I move them to another room it would have to be our hall closet (plenty of space after you get past the clothes hanging by the door). If I do this...then I have to cut a hole for the wires to exit the double wall construction of our HT, plumb electricity to the room, cut a hole in the wall to the exterior of the house, and install a thermostatically controlled fan. I am retired, and on limited income...what would you do to solve this problem?

I have 2 inuke6000dsp which fan is so loud.....but i have them outside the room...otherwise I would have to rethink my options

I changed the internal fans on my iNuke amps with quieter fans that moved close to the same amount of air...no problems for me in several years of use. My main theater room has all of the amps located in a cool basement with no fan changes required.

I changed my fans to some quieter ones, but it is still not as quiet as I want...so it appears i will be moving them to another room.

i wouldnt want to void the warranty for the fans..I would rather choose a quieter amp...or put them outside

If the fan mod did not make them quiet enough for you, then your choice is move the amp or buy quieter amps. If you really like the amps and they work well for you (no hiss or pops), then I would relocate.

The amps in my situation are used amps so there is no warranty to void. I will have to set up the room next to it for remote amps.

Due to limited income (retired), it will def be a relocation of the amps to solve this problem. I guess one advantage of moving the amps is also less heat...not to mention it would make the amp stack smaller.

In the many hours I have spent in your theater Ron I don't really notice the fan noise. After your fan mods anyway. You did have one amp that sounded like a jet engine though  I forgot what amp that was? It seems pretty quiet to me now.

I have all of my equipment remote located, other than the projector. I love not having to worry about equipment noise and heat. Though I will probably place my Oppo 203 in room, but only until I can get a reasonably priced 40' HDMI cable that does 4K @ 60P 4:4:4. Then I will place the Oppo in my rack

Do you use remote controlled power for your equipment too? I use Insteon Switches and Outlets to power on my amps, and I am currently trying out Home Automation Software running on my tablet to eliminate the remotes for anything except the deep settings.

Was that the Crown we had for a while or was it my current amps before the fans were swapped?

I have a Anthem MCA 5 with a silver faceplate and I love it. :-)

Sorry, I missed this question. I have a Furman power sequencer, but only use the sequencer to trigger my 120 volt relays, to power my amps on and off. So when I turn on my prepro, it sends a 12 volt signal to the sequencer and that trips the relays with delay on and delay off.
