Plot
Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage Season 1 follows newlyweds Georgie Cooper (Montana Jordan) and Mandy McAllister (Emily Osment) as they navigate the ups and downs of young parenthood and small-town life in Medford, Texas. Balancing tire shop work, unexpected baby duties, and meddling family, the couple leans on Georgie's eccentric parents, Mary (Zoe Perry) and George Sr. (Lance Barber in flashbacks), Mandy's overbearing mother Audrey (Rachel Bay Jones), and her bumbling father Jim (Will Sasso), all while trying to build a stable future amid everyday chaos.

My Thoughts
The show offers a light sitcom escape, and I enjoyed it overall for its familiar faces and easygoing vibe, but it starts out a bit rough as the characters settle into their rhythms—the early episodes feel like they're finding their footing, with setups that drag before the family dynamics finally click. It doesn't have the heart that Young Sheldon brought to the Big Bang Theory universe through its touching story lines, opting instead for broader comedy that rarely digs deep into emotional territory.

Rachel Bay Jones' Audrey lives up to the mean mother-in-law stereotype, her snarky jabs and passive-aggressive digs get a bit old, but as the season progresses her edges start to soften and we see some growth in her character. To me, Montana Jordan and Will Sasso are by far the best parts of the show—Jordan's wide-eyed Georgie brings charm to the dad struggles, while Sasso's Jim steals scenes with his deadpan warmth and timing. Seeing guest stars from Young Sheldon like Zoe Perry and Annie Potts adds some nostalgic aspects to the storytelling, bridging the universes nicely. That said, I really don't like that they added a laugh track, which wasn't present in Young Sheldon—it undercuts the sincerity and feels forced, pulling me out of quieter moments. The show was picked up for a second season mid-way through its first season on CBS and while it hasn’t reached the heights of its two predecessors, it has potential to get better in its second season. 

It's very rare that I’ll review DVDs anymore, but given the studio decided not to release this on Blu-ray I didn’t have any choice. I have a lot of older shows on DVD that I watch regularly, so I’ve gotten used to the lower resolution format and came in with the right expectations. The indoor family scenes offer acceptable clarity and color accuracy, but low light shots suffer from the compression and softness definitely is an issue. What’s sad is the show can be streamed on Paramount+ in HD, which looks loads better than the DVD, but who knows how long it will be available online. At least with the inferior presentation on DVD you own it forever.

The Dolby 5.1 track delivers clean dialog, the most important aspect of a sitcom. The theme song and background music provide a decent stereo separation and ambient sounds place you into the scene, but don’t expect the LFE come to life outside of the opening credits and accompanying music intro.

Conclusion
While not as good as its predecessors, CBS may have another hit on its hands because there are elements to the story that if fleshed out, can be very enjoyable and entertaining. The first quarter of the 22 season 1 episodes are very rough, so if you’re going to give the show a shot, be sure to invest at least 12 episodes before giving up on it. It really does get better from there and by the end of the season it was on solid footing and had me looking forward to the second season. Recommended for fans.

I'm not a fan either, but I just try to ignore them. I wish there was a way to "filter" them out through a setting in the AVR

You can remove a laugh track using audio editing software like Audacity with a tool like laughr (on GitHub), which uses AI to identify and mute laughs

That's good to know. Does the software work with MKV files? This might be a fun project to remove the laugh tracks and see how good the show is without it.

There was a series of edits done a few years ago that took the laugh track out of friends and the results were really different, especially with Ross.  Always a bit of a weirdo, that is amplified without the laughter.  Some of it's due to being taken out of context, but this is kind of creepy.
