We culled the collection some time ago, of movies neither my wife or I wanted to watch again. These are all movies I enjoy or are classics. And a few like " iron Sky " - I do have a few guilty pleasure movies ! ::)

I have neither the time nor the money. Any money for hard drives will be diverted into new wine acquisitions for the wine cellar. If someone just handed me $10K tomorrow, I could spend it on wine by Friday. :-X

So much easier to play a movie when everything is at my finger tips. Plus it takes up a lot less room.

It doesn't really take less room unless you sell the discs after you rip them. But then you have no backup.

Do you rip the extras too, or no? Sometimes the extras on a disc are almost as interesting as the movie itself !

I have an addiction on collecting I guess. Started over 35 yrs ago and still at it. I have been fortunate enough to rip and sell the original's, thus gaining back some money I have invested. I also have down sized believe it or not. My first 2 collections, 1 at 2300 dvd's and the second 2100 dvd's had been sold, once blurays started coming out. These lots sold to a blockbuster chain that was opening up in my area at the time for 4 dollars @ piece. I also had vhs tapes and laser discs, all gone now. I now find locals who are on a list that will buy what I have.

Some movies have the extras, but most do not.

As for backups, I do have an extra 50TB server that I will back up my favorites to once a month. In the course of over 10 years (my current server) I have not lost any data from the server. Knock on wood. My main server is at 122TB and has a dual parity. Meaning I would need to lose more than 2 drives at one time to lose any data. I have gone through a power supply failure, sata controller failures, a cpu upgrade and hard drive failures over this time without the data failing. My server is on two battery backups giving it 2 hours of up time on battery if I lost power. Longer than 2 hours my system will send a power down gently command, instead of an abrupt quit.

Having been doing this for such a long period, my methods of ripping and the container for displaying has changed as technology has gotten better.

I guess I just got tired of dusting all  the cases off and packing them up after a move. And then unpacking and finding out a few had cracked or broken.

" 3573 movies without my 100 UHD 4K " - that would be a lot of movies to keep organized. How many of those 3573 movies are Blu-ray quality and how many are DVD quality ?

2610 blurays with collections on. Picture shows a collection which Kodi then counts as 1 movie not 3. 3029 individuals with 593 dvd's.https://i.imgur.com/ZkwmDiI.jpg

That's a lot of movies. I can't think of that many movies I'm even interested in watching, which makes my collection much more manageable.

I have nowhere near the library that some of you have. There's only so many that I care to rewatch and I find that I am buying fewer each year.

I am a little behind on my Superhero flicks, though. Maybe I will catch up closer to Christmas when a lot of them go on sale.

I have uploaded a short vid for how I manage my stuff and also for an opinion on where my room is dark enough. Granted this is taken with my cell phone and the video is grainy but depicts pretty close to the darkness of room during daylight hours. This is my living area by the way. I have the Epson 4050 you sold me in Dec or Jan. and am looking to upgrade to a better 4k image. Thanks

Pretty dark in there ! A new JVC 4K projector would be an upgrade.
