On October 7, the supernatural superhero epic Spawn makes its global 4K UHD debut. Based on the hit comic book by Todd McFarlane, Spawn features 4K restorations of both the Director’s Cut and Theatrical Cut of the film from the original camera negatives. The limited edition set is packed with hours of special features, collectible packaging, and newly commissioned extras. The release will also be available on Blu-ray.
Lt. Col. Al Simmons (Michael Jai White, Black Dynamite, The Dark Knight), an elite CIA operative, is betrayed and murdered by his boss Jason Wynn (Martin Sheen, Apocalypse Now). Arriving in Hell, Simmons meets the demon Malebolgia (Frank Welker, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen), who informs him that he’s been chosen to lead the Army of the Armageddon. Before he accepts his assignment, Simmons is allowed to return to Earth to see his wife (Theresa Randle, Space Jam). The clown-like demon Violator (John Leguizamo, Super Mario Brothers) tags along to make sure he doesn’t back out of the deal with the devil. Using his newfound powers as a Hellspawn, Simmons navigates the forces of Heaven and Hell to save the world, his family, and himself. The cast also includes Nicol Williamson (Excalibur), Melinda Clarke (Return of the Living Dead 3), and D.B. Sweeney (Fire In The Sky).
Special features include a 4K (2160p) UHD Blu-ray presentation in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible); original DTS-HD MA 5.1 surround audio and lossless stereo audio options; optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing; brand new audio commentary; brand new interviews with actor Michael Jai White, Melinda Clarke, D.B. With the popularity of superhero movies over the past couple of decades, I'm surprised this is just now coming out on 4K. There are some nice extras included for fans of Todd McFarlane. (I'm happy to see the creator get some attention.)
