Jurassic World Rebirth: almost a non-spoiler review

If you saw the first movie, you probably know a lot of the plot of this movie.  I was incredibly impressed when I first saw the Jurassic movie 100 years ago. The special effects were spectacular and I always love John Williams music, which was used throughout the picture. The performances of the actors as well as their casting was very good.

However, the plot to that movie was not as good as everything else. It was rather pedestrian and predictable. And I kinda had seen that sort of plot in several movies, a few that even had dinosaurs. Of course it had a youngster in danger, but you know nothing is going to happen to them in a Steven Spielberg movie.

If you have liked the previous 800 Jurassic Park movies you will  like this one. For those viewers I give this a good rating.  For everyone else this movie is mediocre, sit throughable, and totally predictable. In fact, the musical score kind of announces many of the events that occur in this movie.

The first half hour is very slow. A company is trying to get a group of people together to go to the Jurassic Island to get genetic material from three different species. One is an underwater species, another is a land species and the third one is a species that could fly. So the team is formed with Scarlett Johansson basically as the leader. And actually, she does a very good job. She is much better than Bryce Howard was in the last few movies. And they go out of their way to show you that Scarlett wears comfortable shoes and not high heels which got a lot of publicity when Howard wore them in the last few movies.  Mahershala Ali does his usual spectacular job too. I have been a fan of his since Green Card.

But it’s Jurassic Park and they have to have children put into danger . So there is a second group of people, a father, his two young daughters and one boyfriend who are somehow in a boat in the water near this island for no reason that I know of other than they manage to get onto the boat carrying Scarlet and her crew. As the crew is being introduced, you know who the bad guys are and who is not going to live to see the end credits. And you know there’s always one good guy you like that gets knocked off and here you have to guess a little.

At about the half hour part, their vessel is attacked by a huge gigantic prehistoric creature. I immediately said to my friend, knowing this is a Steven Spielberg movie, “ they’re gonna need a bigger boat!’

Well, it took them a full hour to get to the island and I guess that’s really where the movie begins. There seemed to be less dinosaurs in this movie that in the past ones and I know they look and moving incredibly, but it was not new. It’s hard to believe, but I’ve seen enough of these where I am now not totally impressed. Not only seen here but these types of creatures are shown in the King Kong movies, the Godzilla movies and in my home movies.

There are some scenes that are very reminiscent of the first movie, but in a non-spoiler review I won’t mention which ones . But you can ask.

Once again, we went to our local and very well liked AMC Dolby digital theater. It’s not IMAX, but it gives us a big screen, a very sharp, colorful picture, and wonderful surround sound. It also gives us a good parking spot. The tickets cost 12 bucks each. We got there at 3:30 for a movie that is two hours and 10 minutes and got out at 6:15 because they have to show us 10 coming attractions and Nicole Kidman, sitting in a theater absolutely empty, begging us to come see movies in this theater. They’ve been running this for the last five years and you have a beautiful famous actress and it looks like she still can’t get a date.

David, I sometimes have a problem reviewing a movie like this. it may seem to be a good movie, but it is not original. It’s stealing from the other movies. It’s very repetitive so that someone who saw the first people they may not like this movie.
