Could Peter Pan bring a tear to your eyes?
I was seven or eight years old when my father left me, and my older brother, off at the movie theatre showing Disney’s “Peter Pan.”
He said, “The movie starts at 1 P.M. so you have to out here for me to pick you at 3, we have somewhere to go.”
My father didn’t know that Pecos Bill would be riding in on a short first, delaying the movie. So when Captain Hook chases Peter onto the ship’s plank, my brother said, “We gotta go.” And I did not see the end of Peter Pan.
30 Years Later
Just before Disney released Peter Pan on home video, it was playing a local theatre. My niece Jessica, then seven or eight years old, really wanted to see it. I insisted upon taking her, I was looking forward to finally seeing the ending. But when Hook got Peter up on the plank, my niece got so scared that she ran out of the theatre. I went after her and, again, I did not see the end of Peter Pan.
30 Years Later
Recently, my niece and her son, about seven or eight years old, were visiting me. I asked young Gabe what movie he’d like to see on Disney streaming. He said, “Peter Pan.” So we piled into my bed and I turned on the movie onto my 77 inch TV. With about 15 minutes to go, Jessie, my niece and his mother came into the room and asked what we were watching. We told her. So she plopped in the bed and three generations of my family saw the end of “Peter Pan” for the very FIRST TIME together.
I have a place where dreams are born,
And time is never planned.
It's not on any chart,
You must find it with your heart.
Never Never Land.
