Reviews of DC, Marvel and Star Wars!
« on: November 10, 2024, 02:10:28 PM »
It was fun doing the rating for the Marvel Universe movies.  I thought I’d do three more: Star Wars, DC and Marvel (not Marvel Studios.)

The Star Wars is easy: I liked the first three, especially, “The Empire Strikes Back” All the others are not so good!!!

Let’s get to DC….Superman the Motion Picture is my favorite Super-Hero movie.  The Richard Donner edition of Superman II was a continuation was also terrific.
Great
Superman I
Superman II (Donner Edition)
Wonder Woman
Batman Begins

Very Good
Batman (1989)
The Dark Knight

Good
The Dark Knight Rises
Superman II (Theatrical)
Batman Returns
Suicide Squad
The Flash
Aquaman
Superman VS. The Mole Men (The pilot for the 1950s TV series)

Just Sit through able
Suicide Squad 2 and 3 (I honestly get these movies mixed up!)
Shazam
Watchman
Justice League (Extended)
Green Lantern
The Watchman

Bad
Justice League (Theatrical)
Superman III
Aquaman II
Shazam II
Superman Returns
Black Adam
Man of Steel

Very Bad
Batman Forever
Batman Vs. Superman
Wonder Woman 1984
Batman and Robin
Catwoman
Superman IV: Quest for Peace
Supergirl
Batman (1966)
Blue Beetle

Marvel Movies

Great
Logan

Very Good
X-Men Days of Future Past

Good
X-Men 1-3, First Class

Just Sit through able
Wolverine I and II
Daredevil (Director’s Cut) I liked the first half.

Batman 1966 is one of my favorites. Can’t be judged  as a good movie tho. Its meant to be campy

as a young Batman fan, I was disappointed in the silliness of the TV show from the very beginning. Batman was entering a phase that they called in the Comics, the new look. Influenced by marvel the comic was getting slightly more adult. Here it was utter silliness And to me it was a one joke comedy. And the one Joe played over and over again.

Sadly, many people, especially adults, thought that this is what Comics were all about at that and they weren’t.

Similar story for me, Barry.  I was really little when I first saw those Batman TV shows, and I thought they were great.  But then, when I hit about 10-12, I discovered Marvel comic books, and they were nothing like the Batman show.  At that point I really started to resent Adam West and Burt Ward's representation of the heroes for giving the public the wrong idea of what real comics were like.

It took decades to finally shed that image once and for all.

However a lot has to be given to the 66 show to explode the popularity of Batman in pop culture.
