Film: 3.5/5

Plot
Ever since a devastating tornado encounter, Kate (Daisy Edgar-Jones) gave up chasing storms across the Oklahoma prairie to safely study them on screens in New York City. Lured back to the field by her friend Javi (Anthony Ramos) and a once-in-a-lifetime scientific opportunity, Kate crosses paths with Tyler (Glen Powell), a charming daredevil and self-proclaimed tornado wrangler whose thirst for tornado-tracking adventures made him a social media sensation. As storm season intensifies with terrifying phenomena unlike anything seen before, Kate and Tyler realize they may need to work together if they are to have any chance of taming, and surviving, an unprecedented outbreak of destructive tornados.

 My Thoughts
In all honesty, this film started out on a low note and after the first 20-25 minutes, my wife and I looked at each other with the same skeptical expression, but thankfully, we stuck with it and it improved as it went along.

The story is somewhat similar to the first film—they get thrills from chasing tornadoes through Oklahoma and are studying them in order to minimize their impact on society. The young cast didn’t have a lot of chemistry at the outset, but as Kate and Tyler spend more time together, there were the definitely signs of sparks beginning to appear.

While the video encode looked great and did a good job of masking the special effects, it was the Dolby Atmos track which was the start of the show and is reason enough to watch the film at least once to enjoy the aural experience. Effects fly through the room seamlessly and the LFE is particularly deep and intense creating the experience of living through a tornado.

 Video 9.5/10 (AVC)

Audio 10/10 (Dolby Atmos)

 Conclusion

By the end of the film my wife and I agreed it was well worth our time. While the story isn’t original and borrows a lot from the original, the cast is very likable and the story had enough emotional heft to keep us entertained after it’s less than stellar start. I’d recommend watching it for both entertainment value and especially for the Atmos audio track, which is simply fantastic.

Agreed on the technical side, but it never improved after those first 20 minutes or so for my wife and me.

Good for experiencing the spectacle, though.

We ended up liking the two main characters, which made it enjoyable. We didn't care for anyone the first 20 minutes of the movie though...it did take some effort :D
