Deadpool & Wolverine (Non-spoiler)

Deadpool & Wolverine (Non-spoiler)
« on: August 05, 2024, 02:00:04 AM »
Saw Deadpool & Wolverine on Saturday night in IMAX.

Summary: This was full of self indulgent humor, fan service, over the top gratuitous violence that's literally up the wazoo... and it was EPIC FUN. See it on the biggest screen you can.

I'm not really conversant with all the minutiae of Deadpool or Wolverine history (and apparently many versions referenced), or even just recalling every single bit of the current sprawling MCU movie & TV material. If you nerd out on that stuff, apparently this movie will inspire you to orgasmic heights (with your favorite sock, as one of the many 4th wall lines so aptly advises) but it's not necessary to have a great time. There are cameos and easter eggs galore, crossing studio lines in ways only possible after Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox. Beyond new opportunities to mock the very entities that made it possible, it doesn't really break new ground but obviously that's not the point. Deadpool is who he & Ryan Reynolds are at this point. It's very well executed so if you like that, you'll enjoy this.

Paul,

My son-in-law said the exact same thing. Just a fun movie to escape to. I may go and see it later this week in theaters. It will be my first trek to the theaters since Mission Impossible last summer!

Oh - one thing I did NOT like and that's putting it nicely. Not about the movie itself fortunately, but... 40 freaking minutes of commercials and previews. FORTY! I was aghast at the previous personal record of 25 minutes and this smashed way thru that.

That's really hostile to customers IMO.

I'm going full curmudgeon here, but having to deal with intrusive ads everywhere I turn is driving me nuts. This is a perfect example. I pay for various streaming services (Peacock is the worst here), but despite paying, I am still forced to sit through many, many minutes of ads.

I've used ad-blockers everywhere I can, but there is no getting around it. On my phone it's frequently hard to actually read the content because of all the ads. YouTube has become virtually unusable.

I understand how capitalism works, and there likely aren't better economic options, or ones where the problems would be even worse.

But dang I'm at about my wits end, and it seems it's only going to get worse!!

End of rant - sorry, but your post was a trigger for me, Paul!! ::)

I hear you, Don. I might have to switch browsers soon b/c Google has made Chrome unfriendly to ad blockers and now  after disabling mine I'm getting slammed with more ads on many sites, some to the point of being unusable. I've got a firewall device that I'm going to set up which has a router level ad blocking feature so that will help at least when at home.

On streaming / TV, for years I saw people talking about how much better streaming was while I kept my DVR. I knew the day would come when that needle would start injecting ad poison because they have so much more control & info with streaming. Revenue streams for executive bonuses can't be ignored!
